  1. Hi Everyone, I was editing simple videos and posting on tiktok. I have taken a big brake from editing and I want to comeback, but I don't know what's the meta program for now. I used to work in Adobe Premier Pro in combination with Adobe After Effects, recently I've seen mostly people prefer Davinci Resolve, ofcourse it's easier to navigate in Davinci but i'm not sure if it instrumental capped for super based level editing. Should I check on it?

  2. Welcome back. For short TikTok-style edits, DaVinci Resolve isn't capped at all. The free version covers everything you used Premiere and After Effects for in that kind of work: the Cut page for fast trimming, keyframes and speed ramps, text and titles, Fusion for After Effects-style motion graphics, and Fairlight for audio. What the free version leaves out is mostly some of the AI tools (auto subtitles from audio is Studio-only), the better noise reduction and a few export options, which you probably won't miss for TikTok. The thing to check first is your PC: Resolve leans on the GPU a lot more than Premiere, so on an older or weak graphics card it can feel sluggish.

    A rough way to choose:
    - If you still pay for Creative Cloud and your muscle memory is Premiere + After Effects, staying there is perfectly fine, especially with Dynamic Link between the two.
    - If you don't want a monthly bill, free Resolve is the usual pick now. For TikTok, set the vertical timeline before you start: File > Project Settings > Master Settings, tick "Use vertical resolution" and pick 1080 x 1920.
    - If your edits are mostly cuts, captions and music, CapCut desktop is the quickest to learn, though more of its features sit behind the Pro plan than they used to.

Disclosure: I build Vidmoat, a hosted AI video editor, and it's aimed at exactly the quick-edit case. You upload your clips and describe the edit in chat (cut the pauses, add captions, reframe to vertical), then adjust it on a normal timeline and export an MP4. It won't replace After Effects for motion work, so for that side Resolve's Fusion page or AE is still the answer.

  4. If you're coming back to TikTok editing after a long break, DaVinci Resolve is absolutely worth checking out. It's not limited to basic editing. It can handle everything from quick vertical videos and fast-paced social edits to advanced color grading, motion graphics, compositing, and professional post-production.
Your old workflow of Adobe Premiere Pro + After Effects is still a valid option, though. The best choice depends on how complex your TikTok edits are and whether you want to spend time learning a new workflow.
Additionally, CapCut and MiniTool MovieMaker are recommended for creating simple TikTok videos. The former is a popular short-form video editor and offers all the essential features and AI tools. The latter is less advanced, suitable for quick cutting and merging.
