  1. ok so everyone wants to compress their video files nowdays
    well i dont ! i wan to rebel against the conformists and defend my right to be totally against the grain
    albeit wrong and mostly unsucessful
    and needing a bit of help actually
    i have downloaded a video of the interweb and i am unable to
    convert it to vcd the only program which will play the file has so far been
    VIDOMi i suspect it is a mpeg3 or 4 format saved as an AVI
    i hav tried numerous codecs and no will work
    if you think you might be able to help
    Please try ,any sujestions
    even about my spelling FINE
    i have tried PROMEDIA as well as nero and dvdws and Windows dum media player and dvdit
    i cannot accuratly find the compression format

    Try gspot. It will tell you what kind of file you are dealing with.

  3. ok so now i know the audio compresion is mp3
    and the video compresion is mpeg4 version3

    So, In fact it's a DivX 3 AVI with MP3 encoded audio.
    This should play using a DivX player, and VirtualDub should be able to open it for frameserving to an MPEG encoder if you'd feel like turning it into a (S)VCD.
    If Virtualdub refuses to open it, install the Nimo codec pack.
    Or use DVD2SVCD in AVI mode.
