need help operating a JVC DR-MV1S

I have a JVC DR-MV1S and can copy/dub a VHS video to a DVD-R disc (I'm not concerned about perfect/optimum video quality as the video is information). I cannot, as far as I know, finalize the disc without viewing a menu on a TV and selecting this option (please advise if there is another way). I am attempting to use an RCA video out on the DR-MV1S to connect to an old TV with an RCA video in. The manual says to set the video channel to "-CH" (off). It says to do this, turn the unit off and then press a black square button for 5 seconds. I'm not sure what button that is. Pressing the stop button that looks like the black square in the manual does nothing. Pressing the power button and holding it on for 5 seconds or more doesn't produce the desired result (dispalying channel 3) but shuts the unit off when I release my finger. I can't get the display and mode to show channel 3 for the video output (or I don't know how) so I can change it to "-CH" (off). This information is on page 17 of the manual, which I downloaded online. I can view channels for the tuner that seem to be set already (?) and cycle through 2, 10, ... but don't see -CH (I suspect the unit is not in the correct mode).

Are you using the composite video output or RF output? The DVD recorder's channel number should be irrelevant for its composite output -- that only matters if you want to tune in and record an analog TV broadcast (which don't exist anymore). Make sure your TV is set to the appropriate A/V input, not channel 3 or 4 as you might use with an RF source.

Thank you for your response. You were right but it took me checking many things to find out. I verfied the video in on the TV was selected with a different video source (took a while to get that setup to work). The last thing I checked was the cable I used to connect the DR-M1S to the video in on the TV. I originally used the right channel of an audio cable first and found it didn't work using the just mentioned video source. Using the left channel cable worked with the different video source and then the DR-MV1S. The cable was the last thing I thought it would be.
