[Release] - Eurovine - European FTA Downloader

I've developed a bunch of standalone api and downloader scripts over the last 2 years aside from my Ozivine adventures. Lately I started thinking about consolidating them into a single originator script in the same sort of way as Ozivine does.

So Eurovine has been born. There are 17 free European services supported in v1.0

For those of you familiar with Python you'll likely have all the required packages installed already. I have specified a requirements.txt file in case you don't.

The main question some might have: why have I done this when there are existing options for some/many of these services ?

I want to use N_m3u8DL-RE as the downloader. It is mostly reliable and a known quantity to me. I've found Unshackle v5.0 to be a little problematic and unsegmented. I didn't feel like creating/supporting any more services for that platform when I don't really want to use it. My choice - if you like using Unshackle or other options out there, great go for it.

I'm a big fan of Nordic noir and French crime series in particular, so I started off creating some Euro services and it just kept going from there. Having been to Iceland in recent years, I've become a big fan of their stuff too. Eurovine prioritises English-speaking users, like me. Where a non-English service exposes default-language subtitles, the service script can translate those subtitles into an English sidecar .srt file.

I'd also like to add that whilst this project has been developed by me and my favorite bot, there may be little bits and pieces of code in some of the services that have originated from stuff done over the years by @stabbedbybrick, @A_n_g_e_l_a and @2nHxWW6GkN1l916N3ayz8HQoi. Without what I've learned from those guys and others in this forum, well I wouldn't be sitting here now.

Anyway, if you're familar with Ozivine and like how that one goes, then Eurovine might be worth a look for you too. It has all the flags and modes that have recently made it to Ozivine.

Any major issues please raise on Github so I can track them properly. Otherwise comments, compliments and brickbats will be dealt with here.

PS: for any Brits that get offended by me classing the UK as European. Yeah I know you kicked yourselves out of the EU but you're still part of Europe

I did try, I love it. I have been able. to set this up, downloading. I do have a question, and I never figured it out directly with ozivine.

How can you choose the quality directly for an episode, or an entire series for that matter?

For Parks and rec on ALL4, default downloads the top 1080p quality.

So after I downloaded s01e01, I checked to see what other qualities there were.

For space saving, is there an easy way to grab just 720p for all episodes of a show if desired?

I had actually used AI to make this addition within ozivine. ( I don't want to do that here) I thought I would ask the source.

If I am overlooking something simple, let me know.

How can you choose the quality directly for an episode, or an entire series for that matter?

I've only got the -a flag right now which which invoke the standard N_m3u8DL-RE dialog after you press yes and then you can select whatever you want. This is only for individual episodes.

I don't currently have a direct flag to set the quality upfront. Something like a -q 720 would work I guess. I'll add that to the drawing board of enhancements - currently working on that exact feature for Ozivine. Once I've got that sorted I'll move it to Eurovine aswell.

• Added -q/--quality mode for selecting a specific video height in download commands.
• Quality selection works for both single episode downloads and -d/--download selector batches.
• Requested quality is reflected in generated filenames for download modes, e.g. 720p when using -q 720.

Changed

• Quality mode now uses exact-height stream selection, e.g. --select-video res=x720$, to avoid accidental partial matches such as 108 matching 1080.
• BBC -u/--ultra remains separate from quality mode and continues to use the UHD flow.
• Improved list/tree output consistency across services, including continuous box-drawing branches and title rules.
• M6+ batch downloads now auto-save translated English subtitles after the initial queue confirmation, avoiding repeated per-episode subtitle prompts.

Fixed

• Fixed prompt-mode parsing edge cases for quality flags, including compact and mistyped spacing forms such as -q576, --quality=576, and - q 576.
• Fixed inconsistent ASCII tree rendering in ITVX, M6+, and My5 list views.
• Fixed inconsistent series title divider styling across older service modules.

What do you have in your config.yaml?

Since I have proxy turned off in here myself. It just replies on my vpn (expressvpn). Since enabled false, rest do not really matter in my case. Yours also seems it set to false, so I am sure same applies. I assume you can play the video without issue in your region directly, or with your VPN?

I've not been able to replicate this error. Where the VPN is off and you need one, you'd end up with a message like this, which means the failure would be before the licence error message you are seeing.

Failed to fetch playback information: HTTP 403 ({ "error":"geoblock", "IP":"123.456.7.890"})

Since your proxy is showing as disabled above and it's using a direct connection, this would tell me your IP is getting past playback and then being blocked at the license call. Same principle applies if you're using an external VPN to the script (that we can't see).

@Billybanana most Europeans learn a second language at school. The way languages were taught back in my day means I can often read French and understand it better that I can understand spoken French.
For the next release consider keeping the original language subtitles as well as the English ones. I have adapted my copy of frtv.py to do this so I can see what my ear isn't hearing. And if I get stuck, or I'm feeling lazy, I can rewind and switch to English subs.

Also, in use, the stops to to answer Y are annoying. I've removed that for frtv.py too, so now an unattended download of a whole series or several is possible.

I like how you got over the Google translate limits.

Thanks for the feedback @A_n_g_e_l_a . I've already got a single and global override setting for auto download coming in the next release. I figured people would get annoyed by that now I have multiple download capability. Should have done it much sooner but there you go.

Yep the README states this:

BBC sometimes exposes separate TTML captions through its media-selector data rather than inside the HLS/DASH manifest. Eurovine currently relies on manifest subtitles for BBC downloads, so those separate BBC caption files are not downloaded automatically.

I'll have a look at the separate subs potentially for the next release. I'll have to think about a deliberate user choice here because implementing subs across the board for English speaking shows will get real annoying, real quick.

Currently as it stands for the UK services, any subtitles exposed in the manifest are grabbed automatically by virtue of N_m3u8DL-RE's --select-subtitle all command. For the non-English services I am dropping the native language subtitles in all cases - whether they are in the manifest or not - and translating them to an external English sub file.

I am working on a solution where a new flag option will get the native language subtitles, either external or from the manifest. This essentially kills two birds with one stone. @kalehrl you get your English subs for BBC etc and @A_n_g_e_l_a you get your native language subs too.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner. Now off to implement it, which is the slow bit, with all these services. What monster have I created
