  1. Hi,

I use windows 11 media server to stream videos to my LG smart TV. The video files are located on an external segate HD. Everything is normal on my TV I select the segate media server, select video, folder, select the applicable sub-folder, select the video and I watch the video.

The problem I am having is when I create a new folder on the segate HD, copy the new video files to the new folder. I then open the media player on the computer and under settings do a refresh of the video libraires. I then try to open one of the new files from within the media server and can see and play the new videos with no problem. When I select the media server on the LG smart TV i can go all the way to the to the new folder I create but I get a message on the TV that there are no video file present in the new folder. I checked and the format of the video files is compatible because I have other files with the same format in other directories which play just fine.

This is ongoing problem and I'm stumped, any suggestions or clues to resolving this problem would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Louie.

I use Serviio as my server and I have to switch the TV off then on for it to pick up new content in my server folders. It sounds like it's a LG TV problem.

  3. Have done that but no change. Maybe if I unplug the TV and reset the TV to factory setup it might help but I want to avoid this until last resort because then I have to reconfigure everything.

try this - To make your LG Smart TV see a new folder on your Windows 11 media server, you must add the folder to the Windows Media Player library, restart the network sharing service, and refresh the TV connection

Update Windows 11 Media Library - Open Windows Media Player on your PC.Go to Organize and select Manage libraries.Choose the correct library type (Videos, Music, or Pictures).Click Add to include your new folder, then save the changes

Restart the Windows Sharing Service - Press Win + R on your keyboard, type services.msc, and press Enter.Scroll down and find Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service.Right-click the service and select Restart.

  5. You could also connect your external HD directly to the USB port of your LG TV and choose the media player to play your videos

  6. Hi,

    ProWo,

I know but the I can't add videos without disconnecting the HD from the TV and connecting it to my computer.

    October262,

Went through the process you suggested step by step but without any success.

I tried one more thing, I setup jellyfin as my media server and with Jellyfin i can watch the video in the selected folder. I then went back to the windows media server and I can get to the folder but it tells me there is no video file presente. I then copied the same video file into an old folder where I can see older videos no problem but I still can't see the new video I just copied there. I don't understand this at all, the format of the file is a simple MKV file and I can play it in Jellyfin on the TV and on my computer with Windows media player.

I can watch the video now but I still would like to understand the problem because I may came across it again. I'm going to try and setup a new folder with a different file to see if I also get the same problem.

    Louie...
