What was the file name of the version you're looking for?
you could try Shotcut as an alternative. It's up to date and quite easy to get started with

The xp version seems to be here

  5. Do you have any idea which version you are looking for ?
The best I can do is send the Movie Maker folder from Vista Program Files.
I do not have an installer for it.
I also have XP & I might have an even older version.
I do not have that computer booted right now.
Let me know if these will help.

Wikipedia has descriptions of the features and updates of the various versions of Windows Movie Maker. Maybe that will help narrow down which version you're looking for: Wikipedia - Windows Movie Maker

Early versions were "baked" into the OS, staring with Win "ME" version, that was ported into XP as baked in and "Vista" as baked in. As such those versions of MM were never designed or available to be "portable" , "standalone" or installable on any other version of Windows. I would question any source that offers any of the original ME, XP, Vista versions as standalone, if you could find one it most likely has been manipulated or messed with.

MM was eventually offered as a "standalone" version in the "Windows Live Essentials 2009 Suite" which supported Win7, Win8 installs. Win10 and Win11 are not officially supported or guaranteed to install or work..

If you really want the earliest versions before Win Live Ess 2009 suite versions you would need to setup a ME, XP, Vista PC or setup a one of those OS versions in a Virtual Machine (VM).

If you have Win10 PRO or Win11 PRO you have access to Windows built in VM called Hyper-V.. Windows Home version does not have Hyper-V..

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/virtualization/hyper-v/get-started/in...pivots=windows

Not saying it is the best VM, but it is baked into the PRO versions of W10 and W11 so it is free to use and no installation is needed to use it.

    On edit..

Fired up one of my XP PCs I keep on hand for obsolete software that will not install or run on Win7 and above..

Version that came with XP is 2.1.4028.0

Here is a screen shot of the Win Movie Maker that was included in XP..

Very generous offer, however be aware, copying the folder and moving it to a different PC/OS most likely will not work as it will have other files outside of that folder like DLLs which would also have to be included and those would have to be properly copied to the proper locations and registered on the targeted PC.

The last version from 2012 fully supports Windows 10, and in fact running it on Windows 10 gives you some extra features not available when running it on Windows 7, such as video stabilization.

Granted 2012 suite supports W10/11, I should have clarified the 2009 suite does not officially support OS above Win8 as the OP is looking for a specific version of MM that predates the version that was packed with 2012 suite as the older version has tools that were removed from the newer versions..
