  1. When I download a Youtube short with yt-dlp, mediainfo tells me it's 1080*1920 but when played the picture is square shaped with the top and bottom of the content missing. What's the issue here and how do I download so that it plays 'tall and slim' like the original? Thanks.

  3. Just tried but can't. That's another problem, despite me telling yt-dlp to get mp4, it always gets me the webm version and vlc tells me it can't identify the codec.

    or
    yt-dlp 299 https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Pz0pRw6-vRU?feature=share ## don't need the audio

I've downloaded it using the 'tubly' extension and the result is the same, a square picture. This 'short' seems to be taller than than the usual youtube short so perhaps that's where the problem is...

  7. Thanks for taking the trouble, davexnet. It transpires, though, that the download WAS alright. I noticed in the preview pane that the thumbnail was 'tall and slim' so I changed player (from MPC-HC to Windows Media Player) and there it was, the same image as on Youtube.
After some experimenting, MPC-HC has to be set to Video Frame/Half Size.
    Thanks again.
