A huge bot network are attacking my site again. Several thousand different IPs across the world.

I have had 15000 bots before but it was just for a few hours. Now it's 24/7 for several months.

Yep. Several forums are gettting hit by DDOS-bots.

I have identified most bots(from country,useragent,etc) now and can block them with a human verification check. I will try cloudflare later.

Most bots comes from these networks

With CF you can just add the AS number to block entire network. You need to be careful with that though. Simple example is a lot of bot traffic from AWS, however AWS also hosts a lot of services like DuckDuckGo.

This has been ongoing and escalating for the past 2 years. It's scraper bots gathering content for AI. The major ones like ChatGPT 's bot can be controlled with robots.txt so not really a problem. The problematic ones utilize thousands of random IP's often from what should be consumer/business networks and don't identify themselves as bots. Probably botnet from compromised machines. They can be difficult to stop because they will be moving from one network to the next.

If I were to guess it's probably governments like China, North Korea, Russia etc.
