Not many people used windows 8.1 I would say it's worse than windows 11, most people upgrade from windows 7 straight onto windows 10 that's what I did.
To me windows 8.1 looks like a tablet os not a PC os
Capture on windows 10 works fine if windows updates are disabled and the PC is offline that can work well for just capturing but if you want to upload videos online then you need a latest os with updates, using an old PC without updates can only work until the antivirus software works on it, even if you ignore antivirus the browser you are using will not work with an older version of windows it just won't open a website, giving a security certificate error..
Most people use Google Chrome or Firefox for the privacy conscious, I don't know who uses Edge?

It's not how it looks: it's how it treats you and "your" data (and "your" PC).
I recently watched this video, it is from an ex Microsoft and Windows developer (not an hater or Linux/MacOS fanatics), it explains very well what happened and what's going to happen.

If all continues this way.. it will also sell your home and your car and buy you different ones based on "helpful" AI algorithms . -
No. VirtualDub2 is based off VirtualDub 1.10.x, which introduced capturing flaws. It's never been fixed.
No.
Correct.
Win11 is proving to be vastly better with capturing than Win10. At least Win11 is a desktop oriented OS, Win8/10 was crap made for tablets, with the tile menus. But Win11 Pro, not Home. Home is awful.
New OS hate/fear has existed since the DOS days. Same crap, different day. <yawn>Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

It's not a question of love/hate.. or fear.
Things have radically changed with Windows 11 (auto-screenshot everything, history on cloud of what you do with your pc, the bitlocker forced by default, AI monitoring everything, storing the "safe" TMP hardware key on microsoft cloud too... ).. it's totally nonsense saying it's like in the DOS/Win 3.11 era. -
on 8.1 firefox works fine and still updates. chrome works but no longer updates. never used edge. no websites don't open or work. windows defender still works just fine for antivirus. no idea why you'd think it looks like a tablet os. looks and works just like win7 and older win os's.--

Windows 8. 8.1 had failed that's why ms quickly developed windows 10, not sure why they skipped 9.
Chrome not updating on windows 8 is a security risk hackers will 'hijack: your browser over time it will get even more risky, newer websites won't display the http certificate errors, my thinking is Microsoft are going to make it more risky on purpose making people buy new hardware for the sake of buying new hardware.
Think of all the ewaste this has created or is going to be creating next year? So much for saving the environment going green not using cars and trucks.
They have given users a few options , frst option back up your files and data on one drive then you get free windows 10 updates for one year or pay $30 and get one years of updates, business get 3 years.
The enterprise version is supported for another 4 years but I don't think it's available for sale to the general public
