  1. Demux to elementary video stream, use restream to remove the sequence display extension, remux back to mkv or another container

  2. Then you can rip it with clever FFmpeg-GUI.
Start the program, click select source file, point to the VIDEO_TS folder in your DVD-Drive, select VTS_01_1.vob
Answer yes to the question and click rip.
Wait until is finished. You'll get the full Movie, already loaded for further elaborations.

With VTS_02_1.vob you'll get the next titleset, and so on...

The titlesets are ripped as vob, without any modification.

Perfect, how did you come up with the sequence display extension?

It was probably discussed several times in the past .. like all things MPEG2

The sequence_display_extension is not commonly used, but it's part of the MPEG2 specs. The problem is different software/hardware can handle/interpret it differently resulting in inconsistent behaviour

  6. When i use the sample i provided with clever FFmpeg-GUI to extract the .m2v and open that in restream to remove the Sequence Display Extention i get the following error:

ERROR! You're trying to restream a multiplexed file!
    Only MPEG2-elementary files are allowed!
    Demultiplex the video-stream first!

I tought that the m2v was the elementary video stream, no?

Update clever FFmpeg-GUI to the newest beta (Settings, Update)
    Then it should work.

Use it with the makemkv file instead of the sample.

Probably not relevant, but the sample in post 24 is different to the original file: the GOP pattern and the frame rate are different.

Sample changed to 4:3 an no more DVD-Video Source-Medium.
Did it with TMSR 6 (Pegasys TMPG Smart Renderer), set to 4:3 demuxing and remuxed with MKV-Toolnix.

  11. I'm glad your problem has been solved.
The crucial tip came from poisondeathray.

  12. Thank you poisondeathray
But also to each one of you for trying and helping!

  13. Why would you care to remove such an insignificant piece of metadata? It's completely useless outside of letting you know that you fixed an incorrect display aspect ratio at one point. I've had this happen a few times when ripping videos from old BBC DVDs and I never paid it any attention until I saw this thread.
