Why could I not get a vid when I had 'use cookies' in there?

I leave --cookies-from-browser there all the time in case it is needed. And it has always gone fine for weeks and weeks now until today
and then I found this one:

would not come down. format not available it said.
so i tried without the switch and it came.
so apparently sometimes it should not be used.
interesting. any more information/advice on that?
