  1. I've started using an Asus 320MV board I had for some time.
The problem I've seen is the constant message that Catalyst is not finding the driver.

I did go to Asus for a driver install. Online it just said "checking for current' version"

It's not fixed because the Catalyst errorr is still on there. I'm havinf problems know how to install the Asu driver
from the install disk. This should all go automatically. Maybe it's the Windows 7 OS

What I want to see is that running a chenage resloution from Win7, that will show Radeon driver in stalled rather than
Generic video driver which is all I get.

I haven't done any of these routines for a long time so one step at a time.

I'll add a screenshot I made of the error

The link at ATI shows a tool to find and install the correct driver but only for Win 10/11. I have to check the exact Radeon but this is old style
on-board graphics which I prefer and not deal with a card. I'll pull out the manual for that

Is there a program that works in such a way with Win 7 find and install ? This should be easy but unfortunately I still have that Catalyst error.

Which of these boards do you have ?
What does it say in the device manager under "display adapters" ?

  4. The MK I read it off the board which I can see on the bench setup

I made a screen shot of what is in Device Manager.

Pay not attention to what says MSI at top. That's an HD from a previous build.

-- > At some point I can boot up a Win10 OS for this Asus just to see if the error goes away. But all my usage amd familiarity is on
the old Win7 with much less bloat on it.

There is a chipset driver package at the ASUS site for Windows 7 64 bit.
    What CPU do you have?

According to this, the Athlon 7th gen should provide Radeon R series grapics,
while a Ryzen processor will not unless it is the "G" series

  6. I don't know if it's something I only noticed lately but with this genertic driver, things look less crisp and jaggy. And I'm running it at the highest Win7
level. The monitor is an old HP 1175 17 in. That has been quirky but leave that be for now.

I'll continue with this-- well it may go into Tuesay or so. I'll have some machine downtime during all that.

The Ryzen as I recall was ok recommended to use with the Asus A320Mk (whatevs.) CPU World has all that.

It's a Ryzen 4 core 3200 gen 5 but I want to one of the evice programs first.

  7. last thing today. a screen shot from Aida64

I really can't remember anything anymore. Old processes and all that. Anything that involves a Windows install routine usually tanks for me
    so I need an executable.

ryzen 2400g. Try installing the Windows 7 chipset package at the Asus site

  9. Hi Dave,

I was at Asus and I believe the chipset package is what I downloaded. As I recall it opened up to something 'bin' and not easy to
Identify. Maybe I didn't get it going. The original install disk... well I used it a long time ago but 'autorun' "setup" etc would not start from
the DVD drive when I opened in Win7 the way I'm used to seeing the process start. Everything works here, I'm on it now. Just, as we've mentioned, only the generic vid driver shows up.

  10. Thanks for the help. I will see what's there.

It looks like I should review the manual and do a BIOS upgrade? I do not want to tackle that. But this board shows something on it called EZ BIOS. All of this has the goal of getting Radeon graphics as high def as the old LCD monitor allows. This should be on my Asus installer. I can make a screen shot of that at some point, but I tried to get it going even with the DVD as master. I may have to go try that again. That's what it's for: install graphics, install cpu, install lan.
When I get caught up with a couple things, I'll mount my Win10 and see if any of the devices and video are settled on that.

I apologize for info dumping but I did read the link above with questions. The Adrenalin Radeon etc. driver link ran with an error.
The error (in screen shot) took me to Error 182, 'hardware not supported'. At the botton of the error page it describes
where the problems come from: The A- series CPU is in there. When I saw Vega on the list I thought it would run.

They also mention software conflicts and suggest running AMD Cleanup Utility. I don't want to take out what I have working.

    That catches me up.

Thanks finding what you did. If there is some other Legacy place of AMD A-Series, well I'm not good at finding anything like that.
    I'ts a maze for me.

I will add a screen shot of what is on my installer disk. It doesn't want to run, but I have an older DVD drive to switch out.
This stuff should just "go" even if it's from 2019. I was press carefull in matching the boards and CPU so it's frustrating, like
    "everything you know is wrong."

  12. I wanted to add in the screen shot of my original ASUS support disk.

And I found the small manual. Also know the full one is on the disk but a lot of screen reading
like that is not book form.

Things like setup and so on listed should just 'run' but they all look alike.

Please do not rush to answer. I take this stuff slowly

  13. I have switched disks and running Win10 as I said I'd do to check the Device Manager.

Good news, DM shows the ATI driver. And no error appears from Catalyst.. it didn't come back on this disk.
I can only do the simplest of setups so that would have been load Win10, run the setup disk. I don't know any more than that.

Now that I know I can reliably use Win10. But dislike all the format. (I've set up the Win7 shell program on it so most things look like Win7) I may come back to it but I want to resolve this for the old Win7 which I'd run elsewhere.

When I come back I'll be on the problem disk.

AMD's official position is that the Ryzen 2400g not supported on Windows 7.
But it seems certain manufacturers provided a driver. For example,
on the ASUS site there is a driver for 64-bit Windows 7, but not 32 bit.

If I were you I'd take an image backup of your Windows 7 partition; at least then you'll be able to restore it to where
you were if something messes up in your testing

Make sure you have file extensions visible so you can see what is what in Windows Explorer

  15. I read the fine print on my ASUS installer disk which specifies Win10. I apolgize for not noticing it. It's why my Win10 install went smoothly.

I tried another search on this today for Radeon

    https://www.driverscloud.com/en/services/GetInformationDriver/74674-122933/amd-radeon-...64bit-may21exe

That shows a long list including R7 which is in the Radeon description. It failed with the same message from yesterday even though it says Win7 etc. and it found the Asus setup disk.

ATI says they classed this thing I have as Legacy since Microsoft dropped support. Ok for that.

How can I find one of the Legacy drivers from before all the Win 10 and before 2019?

Maybe it's just undoable. I haven't given up yet.

Uninstall any existing AMD driver, chipset, or Catalyst software from the system.

    Reboot.
(some default microsoft driver may automatically install but that's OK)

Download and run the AMD Cleanup utilitiy.
Download and run the driver from the Asus site

    https://www.amd.com/en/resources/support-articles/faqs/GPU-601.html
    https://www.asus.com/us/motherboards-components/motherboards/prime/prime-a320m-k/helpd...=PRIME-A320M-K

If it still doesn't work you can probably give up on getting it to work in Windows 7

  17. Ok yes I missed the cleanup step in all this, but I'm prepared for failure.
I believe driver uninstall is done through device manager. But as posted above it only shows generic pnp or whatever says up there in the screen shot.

What's left would be run cleanup and delete any catalys (this is hard to get rid of) in Revo Uninstaller.

NOt just device manager. I'd look in the program uninstall section of control panel first for the AMD software

  19. thanks davenext

I thought I put up a screenshot showing that control panel entry.

While I worry about deleting things, I did locate a driver for my old HP 1740 Monitor. That appears to be installed properly.
That should clean up a problem in POST having the HP recognized on bootup. I simply lived without it
previously not knowing it was needed or existed. Some usage will prove how effective.
