From what I've heard, Windows has a history of disregarding the blocking of certain things (such as via use of the HOSTS file), so it may be that some third-party firewall product is instead required.
FAT32 is mandatory for the UEFI boot partitions

If you want to replace the built-in firewall of Windows, give a try to the "famous" TinyWall.
It worked fine on my previous Windows 8.1 setup, but with the current one, there is no way to make it work,
since it now requires Windows 10 or higher and the author offers no old versions in his web site.😠

I have Gigabyte H270N ITX motherboard(Kaby Lake chipset). This system was bought in 2017. It just miss the Windows 11 upgrade cutoff.

It needs at least an 8000 series CPU i.e. 8th gen cpu or later. With the help from Win-Raid Forum, I flashed a mod BIOS and the motherboard now can support 8th Gen cpu.

Messing with the BIOS needs some hardware, software and skill. But it is not insurmountable.
Now, I extend the life of this system for another few years.

If you're OK with all the MS shenanigans, there are videos available online for how to circumvent the "compatible hardware cutoff."

Thanks for the recommendation. It looks like that developer still offers a previous version that is for some of the older Windows editions. https://tinywall.pados.hu/files/TinyWall-v3.2.5.msi

Can this run alongside the native Win firewall ? Would it clash or slow things down appreciably ?
If this is already covered in their FAQ, which you'd suppose it would be, never mind -- I'll find it.

Well, the point of TinyWall is to get rid of the native Windows Firewall.
I used TinyWall in the same way I used the ancient firewalls Kerio, FilseClab and PCTools during the XP/Vista/Seven Eras:
only for defining which programs are allowed to use the Internet and which ones are not.
Currently I'm using Windows Firewall because, well, I've already learned how to deal with its convoluted interface.

Well, WHO coulda predicted that ?!

I'd check this out if I gave a rat's posterior about 11, or had any slightest intention of running it (which I don't), but . . . guess we'll see if any bypass to their bypass emerges. I'm not in the habit of betting against the ingenuity of hackers.

  15. I'm still rocking Windows 7 .
I plan to for as long as it will work.
So far no security breaches & no viruses have got in to my PC.
Maybe I should unmothball my old PC with Windows 98SE.

  18. In a new Windows Update they removed Wordpad. I rather liked Wordpad. I still won't order Microsoft Office as I will use one of the free alternatives instead.

I hope it's possible to use both Wordpad and MSPaint from Windows Vista under Windows 10/11.
I have a Windows 8.1 machine but I still use the Vista versions of Wordpad and MSPaint.
Needless to say that the newer versions of those goode olde applications suck pig time.

More than likely you can put it back manually and still use it.
I like Wordpad also, use it pretty much every day. (But I'm sticking with Win-10.)

One of the (many) very annoying aspects of successive Win versions: the unjustifiable need to keep arbitrarily renaming things and relocating them where you're unlikely to find them without guidance, to the regular consternation of longtime users.

I really have to say I adore Windows 11. It feels stable, just 'right', somehow.
Use the search in the taskbar, type 'wordpad'.
