4:2:2 HuffyUV 8 bit vs 10 bit?

Hello

I am using AmarecTV to convert tapes to 4:2:2 (YUY2) using HuffyUV 2.1.1. Afterwards I will upscale to 1440x1080 and perhaps do some minor color adjustments

When imported in Hybrid the file says 8 bit.
I didn't see any option for capturing to 10 bit.

How important is 10 bit for this?
And what settings should I change to have 4:2:2 10 bit?

Irrelevant at capture level, it’s like using a bigger box for a small content.

If required by some filtering, you can increase the bit depth in post-processing to somehow improve output quality.

Everything depends - for example we had recently discussion about patterns - in 8 bit quantization range within 601/709 there is no possibility accurate represent level 50% as in 10 bit (8.2) quantization depth value for 50 IRE should be 502 but in 8 bit this is 125.5 i.e. it must be truncated to 125 or rounded up to 126.

If hardware used for capture support 10 bit quantization depth then i strongly recommend to use it - it can be always properly converted to 8 bit.

At capturing level, for VHS/S-VHS is just a waste of space. VHS/S-VHS is 1 cubic meter object. 8-bit capturing is a 1.5 cubic meter box for that object (more than adequate). 10-bit capturing is a 3 cubic meter box (useless).

OTHH, if the hardware allows it, capturing at 10-bit does not hurt in any way, so why not
