  2. Do you have ffmpeg.exe or mkvmerge.exe in the path of N_m3u8DL-RE.exe? Maybe that's why it doesn't mux for you.

Added both to path. I keep getting the mux error.

When dealing with N_m3u8DL-RE and mkv muxing you have 3 options:
    Code:
    1. -M format=mkv:muxer=mkvmerge
    2. -M format=mkv
    3. use directly mkvmerge (mkvtoolnix) on the output
If one doesn't work, try the other. There isn't a single format mkv option that will work for all sites. What works for some, is broken for others. Modify the N_m3u8DL-RE arguments in the script (around line ~430 I think). Or take the generated command and modify it accordingly.

eDIT: in your case -M format=mkv does the job

The script doesn't give any option to modify it. The thing I'm doing now is: I generate the key with allhell3.py copy it and then run a n_m3u8dl-re command on a separate shell. I would like if the allhell3.py way worked, it would be faster and more efficient.

You edit the source code. Open it in notepad. Search for 'format=mkv:muxer=mkvmerge' and replace (all occurrences) with 'format=mkv'

    It's not rocket science

Holy hell man it worked. It's kind of mad that it has to resort to this to work.

There's nothing mad about this. I don't think there's a proper way to find out at runtime which muxing option works. Maybe it would be possible in the N_m3u8DL-RE source code when the m3u8/mpd is parsed. Don't know for sure.

The alternative is just trial and error all 3 options until something works. Don't forget to change it back if some other site breaks.

If it merges to mkv using -M Format=mkv, it is muxing using ffmpeg.

If it fails using mkvmerge - that suggests the installation of mkvmerge is at fault.
Test by calling it from the command line:- mkvmerge --help should give a response if called from a command prompt while in any folder.

I note the OP has not followed instructions for using allhell3 and does not use Terminal. Find it in Microsoft store and install.

OP says "I would like if the allhell3.py way worked, it would be faster and more efficient" - then install everything correctly and follow instructions - thousands of downloads yet only one user has an mkvmerge problem.

If you make a permanent change to the script to remove mkvmerge as a muxer, all that will happen is that the merge process will be a bit slower using ffmpeg.

How right you are! It fails on Linux too. Accept my apologies OP. OP just happened to be using AllHell3 and that unjustly got the blame. Muxes ok via mkvmerge working on audio and video manually. ??

I note there is a new release of Mkvmerge 24-09-07: Released v87.0 - it hasn't yet made it to my distro's repositories

Seems to be working. And most importantly without video/audio sync issues

    Code:
    mkvmerge video.mp4 audio.m4a -o content.mkv
Does that imply the issue is with N_m3u8DL-RE? Something tells me that waiting for a new mkvmerge version won't solve the issue fully

Question is though why has that one video got a problem?

I don't really know why that one has a problem, but I can say that it's not the only one (at least for me). I've encountered a small number of sites (but still noticeable) where mkv muxer / ffmpeg muxer had problems. Mostly with video/audio sync issues and sometimes failing directly like OP had. On some sites mkv muxer worked and ffmpeg didn't. On others ffmpeg worked and mkv muxer didn't.

And on very low percentage of sites both didn't work and instead mkvmerge manually was the solution. I didn't bring this issue with hell tool because I thought you were aware of this issue and simply chose mkv muxer since statistically it seems the best choice.

  17. Use shaka packager to decrypt and it'll mux properly. Mp4decrypt is still fine in most cases, but it's old and will occasionally cause problems for reasons I'm too lazy to look into. Shaka always works and is typically the standard tool these days.

The sites I go after, generally, do not create problems. I choose mkvmerge as being more reliable and faster. I've also noted many times I produces scripts that are simply recipes. And recipes can be altered to suit one's taste.

I've run that video merge with an updated mkvtoolnix gui and it reports warnings while merging.

    Code:
Quicktime/MP4 reader: Track ID 0 has more than one FourCC. Only using the first one (0x61766331 "avc1": AVC/H.264/MPEG-4p10) and not this one (0x61766331 "avc1": AVC/H.264/MPEG-4p10).
Quicktime/MP4 reader: Track ID 0 has more than one FourCC. Only using the first one (0x6d703461 "mp4a": AAC) and not this one (0x6d703461 "mp4a": AAC).
So I think the errors lie with the original encoding. ChatGPT, when queried on the meaning of v1-x3 in this line from N_m~

    Vid *CENC 1920x1080 | 3692 Kbps | v1-x3 | avc1.640028 | 526 Segments | ~52m36s

    says,

v1: This could signify that this is the first version (or a primary stream) of the video encoding. In video encoding workflows, multiple versions of a video are sometimes created for different purposes (e.g., different resolutions, bitrates, or devices).
x3: This might indicate that this video stream has been encoded or transcoded three times. The use of "x" typically implies multiplication or repetition, so "x3" could mean three encoding passes or three layers in adaptive bitrate streaming
So what the encoders were doing is anyone's guess.

Bottom Line: It never was a hell tool issue. But I got woken up all the same!
Noob Starter Pack. Just download every Widevine mpd! Not kidding!.

Noted. I understand now. And yeah you're right. Scripts can always be edited according to each problem.

Nice. Shaka seems to work with muxer mkvmerge. I personally don't trust it fully as a general solution. I wish I saved one anomaly mpd (non-livestream) where shaka packager couldn't decrypt ok but mp4decrypt worked. Maybe they fixed this in recent versions. By the way, does shaka also solve any sync issues as well?

  20. I tend to disagree with ChatGPT here. To my observation and understanding the "v1-x3" is more part of an enumeration scheme. It has absolutley nothing to do with version numbers or transcoding times. See the output of yt-dlp -F on this url:

    Code:
    info] Available formats for manifest:
ID EXT RESOLUTION FPS │ TBR PROTO │ VCODEC VBR ACODEC ABR ASR MORE INFO
    ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
    a1-x3 m4a audio only │ 112k dash │ audio only mp4a.40.2 112k 48k DRM, DASH audio, m4a_dash
    v1-x3 mp4 1920x1080 25 │ 3692k dash │ avc1.640028 3692k video only DRM, DASH video, mp4_dash
It has one audio and one video track prefixed by "a1" and "v1".

Another example where a similar enumeration scheme is used:
    Code:
    [info] Available formats for manifest:
ID EXT RESOLUTION FPS │ TBR PROTO │ VCODEC VBR ACODEC ABR ASR MORE INFO
    ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
    f6-a1-x3 m4a audio only │ 157k dash │ audio only mp4a.40.2 157k 48k [de] DRM, DASH audio, m4a_dash
    f7-a1-x3 m4a audio only │ 157k dash │ audio only mp4a.40.2 157k 48k [en] DRM, DASH audio, m4a_dash
    f8-a1-x3 m4a audio only │ 256k dash │ audio only ec-3 256k 48k [de] DRM, DASH audio, m4a_dash
    f9-a1-x3 m4a audio only │ 256k dash │ audio only ec-3 256k 48k [en] DRM, DASH audio, m4a_dash
    f1-v1-x3 mp4 768x432 25 │ 351k dash │ avc1.64001f 351k video only DRM, DASH video, mp4_dash
    f2-v1-x3 mp4 1024x576 25 │ 458k dash │ avc1.64001f 458k video only DRM, DASH video, mp4_dash
    f3-v1-x3 mp4 1024x576 25 │ 714k dash │ avc1.64001f 714k video only DRM, DASH video, mp4_dash
    f4-v1-x3 mp4 1024x576 25 │ 1114k dash │ avc1.64001f 1114k video only DRM, DASH video, mp4_dash
    f5-v1-x3 mp4 1024x576 25 │ 1742k dash │ avc1.64001f 1742k video only DRM, DASH video, mp4_dash
I see this scheme used oftenly. To my understanding here the formats are prefixed with "f1" ... "f9" to further distinguish which tracks to choose.

@angela's hell worked for me for this video (with the modified command). Make sure you follow the right steps detailed in her tutorial. Also please don't "bro" me. It feels weird hearing that.

Sync issues in VOD streams are most often related to the content being "stitched" improperly, which is not something packager deals with in this case. But to be perfectly honest, I don't know if shaka includes any specific mux flags in the decryption process that could affect things. I've only every encountered sync issues on one service (Pluto), so my experience is limited.

I fixed it after posting. I used another license link and it worked. "Bro" it's just internet lingo. It's like "mate", "chief", "boss, "bruv" or "dawg".
