Beta Deck Audio Monitoring Problem - Sony DVW-A500

Hi. I'm having issues selecting what audio channels are being monitored. When I press the Monitor Select button and then channels 1 or 2, nothing changes -- they are stuck on 3 & 4. Because of this, when I'm digitizing a tape that has only 1&2 audio, I cannot monitor with headphones or the XLR Monitor Ouput on the back. Any advice? I noticed that when I ejected a beta tape, the deck auto switched to monitoring 1&2. I put the tape back in and it switches to 3&4.

It may have another menu screen where you can turn on and off which channels to toggle for monitoring, If I was you I would go through the entire user manual to find out.
