is there any way to take a still picture from a paused video??

One easy way is in WinDVD, hit keyboard "P". Then find your still in Program Files/InterVideo/WinDVD/Capture.

well, hitting "p" while playing does not work. and there is no capture in the directory. im actually trying to get a still picture off a mpeg i have.

Here is another way.
If your video is MPEG-1, you can open it with VirtualDub and navigate to the frame you want, chooese Edit-->Copy frame to clipboard, then paste it onto your graphic program and save it.
If your video is MPEG-2, you need a workaround, since VirtualDub doesn't support it. DVD2AVI--Avisynth will do the trick. But capture directly from software player is the easiest and fatest.
