I want to take a little noise out of a movie.
What is the maximum configuration I can use without losing quality?

  2. I use hqdn3d(2.0)

    adm.addVideoFilter("MplayerDenoise3DHQ", "mode=4", "luma_spatial=2.0", "chroma_spatial=1.5", "luma_temporal=3.0", "chroma_temporal=2.25")

    I used this configuration.
    Did it get bad?

The simple answer to your original question is.....

    None

Any noise removal actually removes detail from the image and it is then your perception of visual quality that matters.

For that reason it is not possible to use the same settings for every occasion.

    I changed it from 4: 3 to 16: 9
    960 x 720 to 1920x1080

I would like to know if I need to do any additional configuration?

  6. Not in the x264 encoder settings, just set your crf. Unless you have a specific not to, you probably should just be using a preset (disable "use Advanced Configuration").

Your source is quite noisy, I would be downscaling it not upscaling it.

If so, is this the right setting?

I need to change something in Rate control?

  8. You likely want to change Preset to normal, slow or slower.

You can change Quality (on the screenshot its crf=20), crf=23 is the x264 default.

Try encoding a minute or two of your video (select the section you want to encode with markersA and B, then save) and check the result suits you.

I don't want to change anything. The thing is that I changed it from 4: 9 to 16: 9. Then I wanted to know if I need to change anything in these definitions

I am using Avidemux just to change from 4: 3 to 16: 9. But as I am a novice, I would like to know if I need to change some other configuration so as not to lose quality.

Simply changing a video from 4:3 to 16:9 will do two things.

    1. You stretch/distort your video unless you add borders left and right - 160 pixels each side (16:9 = 1280*720: 1280 - 960 / 2 = 160)
    2. Will involve a re-encode so you WILL lose quality

  12. Using the the crop filter, your 4/3 video becomes 16/9 by cutting part of the frame out, instead of padding it with (black) bars.

    The original video is 960 x 720
I’m going to put it in 1080 x 720. So it doesn’t change so much and removes the black bars

^^ Pretty pointless exercise. Play a 4:3 video, or even 1080*720. which is neither 16:9 or 4:3, full-screen on a 16:9 screen and the player will still add those black bars.

A crop of 960*720 to true 16:9 removes 180 pixels. Then you must decide where you remove them. And you still have to re-encode.

Well that has everything going against it.

    Very small picture frame.
    Low bitrate
    Low and variable framerate

Now someone with the knowledge of avisymth may make something better out of it (not that it is worth the effort)

For now, I have enlarged the picture frame. Increased the bitrate. And improved the framerate.

It's like trying to recompose a huge building with only 10 (very damaged) bricks left.
