Having a serious brain fart working with SD footage scanned from DigiBeta tapes.
How is NTSC 720x480 4:3 and 16:9 but calculates to 3:2?
Is this have to do with the dimensions of the individual pixels, not the resolution itself?
Even after reading various Wikipedia articles, I'm still confused.

Depending on codec and container you can force the display aspect ratio or sampling aspect ratio (sometimes called pixel aspect ratio). So any frame size can be displayed at any display aspect ratio.
