Hi - I am looking for a simple video editing tool that will allow me to import about 6 video clips shot on different cameras (iPhones & DSLR) and an audio file. I would like to be able to switch between each clip at various time points. I do not want to edit the video clips rather just select which one is visible at a point in time. In my head I would like something where there are 6 lanes of video in the editor one above each other and I can select which one is being 'output'. Something similar to audio editing in Cubase or Logic - where you can set automation etc...
I have tried HitFilm and Lightworks and can not seem to get this behaviour - i dont really want to do anything complicated just to be able to switch between the video files - may be some basic fading / disolves.
Ideally free or very cheap.

Lightworks should be able to handle it. Davinci Resolve definitely can. (Non-free would include Premiere Pro, Vegas Pro and Avid.)

Since you have so many different types of long-GOP sources, consider using a proxy workflow. 6 tracks of H.264 will grind to a halt on pretty much any system.
