  1. How'dee all...

I was wondering if anyone has any information on what needs to be done inorder create a Video-CD that can be played on the Playstation 2..? I've been able to create Video-CD's that can be played on my system's dvd player aswell as a stand'alone home dvd player... but I'm attempting to create one that I can use in my Playstation 2, which can play regular dvd's, only I haven't had any luck getting any of my VCD's to work in my PS2...

Any and all help would be extremely appreciated...

don't you just love it when you ask a question and people say "no." and that is it?

    Two solutions for you:

    1) Get a mod chip, which will allow for VCD playback (I think the new Neo chip will do it, as well as the Messiah)

    2) I read somewhere that if you burn the VCD with the same config. as a PS2 compatible DVD, same bitrate, MPEG2 etc, that the PS2 will play it, but that only 20 minutes of video at this config. will fit on a disc (CD-R.)

  6. Why buy a mod chip & pay for shipping & install problems when a new cheap DVD player will cost just about as much (about $60) in many countries?

Well its better than just making up incorrect information isn't it?

    1) Mod chips have absolutely nothing to do with VCDs. Modchip's diasable or otherwise bypass the bad sector check that the PS2 performs to detect whether the loaded disk is a real game or not. There is no mod chip that will allow vcd playback on a PS2 and there is no external adapter for this purpose either. There is currently NO hardware that will allow the PS2 to play VCDS, period.

    2) If you convert your media file to PSS and burn it as a PS2 game then it will play on the PS2 but this is not a VCD. He didn't ask how to make a homemade PS2 game. Incidentally this really isn't a viable method for many reasons.

He asked a legitimate question but the answer just happens to be no, and that IS it.

There is a group of people working on software that will play vcd, svcd, and divx on the PS2. It is in extreme beta stages right now and really doesn't do much but this is as close to playing vcds as the PS2 gets.

Do you know what it would take to build such hardware or where to find more information about what is needed to get this done?

Any more information on this group of people? I'd like to learn about this as much as I can and hopefully contribute in some way or another.

    Thanks for your insightful post!
