HDMI-CEC on mobile phones?

I recently got a usb-c to hdmi cable for my Galaxy Note 8 and i've been digging around trying to find if theres anyway i can take advantage of hdmi-cec and control media playback via my tv remote

My TV is a Sony XE7096 and under Bravia Sync, there is an option that is searching for devices, but when i connect my phone it doesnt list any.

Also mxplayer and vlc for android is running, on the side of my mobile running Android OS

CEC is dead - to many proprietary implementations... (be sure if your phone is CEC capable - CEC is not integral part of HDMI - this is rather separated block that works independently to HDMI).
