hi
I recently captured a big AVI (about 12gb) and it was split in several parts...I converted them to VCD and tried to merge them in TMPGEnc but you can distinctly tell where the new part begins because there is a high pitched noise. Is there anyway I can seamlessly merge the two parts???

I had the same problem at one point. Instead of combining the AVI files in TMPG, open and append the files in Virtual Dub and then frameserve them into TMPG. Ever since I discovered framserving I've had no problems with this.

thanks for ya help! do I open the VCDs in vdub or the original AVIs and...I can see the "Start frame server" tool in the File menu but dunno how to frame serve it into Tmpg

You open the first AVI in VDub. Then use the file append function in VDub to append each AVI file to the first one in the correct order. As far as the rest, here is the scoop on Frameserving
