I own a lot of Blurays and DVDs and was wondering if it is legal for me to rip them and re-encode them for use on my android so the kids will have something to keep them occupied watching movies? I am not looking for how to guides or trade. I just want to know if it is legal to copy my discs in that way for family use only.
Thanks

That's not the definition of "Fair Use".
The legality of copying discs you own/bought is the sticking point.
Everyone does it but is it truly "legal"? The sticking point of the legality
is breaking the copy protection that is built in to the DVD or Blu Ray. -
I just want to do it for my family, my kids love movies on long car trips and if asked by an officer I can once I get home show proof that I do indeed own the movie. Surely that should be legal shouldn't it? I did buy the movies.

Just backup your collection and store your original discs and play the copies, who cares about the Hollywood cops and their fat wallets.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
'Fair Use' from our Rules: https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/72386-Forum-rules-Acceptable-Use-Policy-(AUP)?
You do need to scroll down a bit to get to that part. And 'Fair Use' is also determined by the laws of the country you are in.
