Hello im new here, and i need help.. Well first off i just built a pc.. Os is Windows 7 64bit, i7 3770K cpu , xfx7870 video card, p8z77-v deluxe mobo, and i have an asus blu ray writer (bw-12b1st), i have vlc and window media player and i cant play dvd's or blu rays.. i got cyberlink2go as the package software with the burner.....Now when trying to play a bluray or dvd in windows i get this message
(Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.)
I have downloaded the klite codec and the shark007 one but still get this message...
In VLC i get this message.....Blu-Ray error: This Blu-Ray Disc needs a library for AACS decoding, and your system does not have it. it also calls it logical volume id?
With the klite media player classic after downloading the codecs.... it says cannot render file..
In Windows media Center it says i must first install a playback application that supports bluray disc...
Can anyone give me some help and guidance as to whats going on and what i need in order to watch movies on my pc!
Thanks God Bless

Careful with those codec packages...
It might be better if you want to play with freeware players to copy disc to hard drive and then play files using software media players.
VLC has a patch that will allow blu-ray disc playback (main movie only) (older titles).
If you want menu and all discs to playback, you will need to buy media player software.
VLC, MPC, Potplayer and Splash Lite as well as some others will play movie files on hard drive. -
Perhaps the players DVD region is not set and/or it has third party firmware that bypasses the region ?

stevems already gave you recommendations. And the warning about codec packs should be heeded.
Try media player classic home cinema - you may have meant that but it is different than the older media player classic.
VLC should work on dvds no problem.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -

How to play DVDs and Blu-ray discs in Windows 8Last edited by jagabo; 9th Dec 2012 at 09:59.

Probably not. Cheap is a relative term. If you want to buy a commercial product, you should ONLY buy Total Media Theater for BluRay and DVD playback. If you buy anything else like PowerDVD or WinDVD, you wasted your money.
There are no guarantees that following jagabo's instructions will work for all BluRay discs you want to play, but if you want to try to play those discs for free, give it a shot. VLC should be able to play DVDs fine under Win 8 as far as I know. The only error you quoted was not applicable to DVDs. AACS is only for BluRay by the way.
