capturing freezes after some time

when I try to capture from VCR with my tunertvcard with a codecs (divx or huffyuv) to keep the file low, after some minutes the capturing freezes.I have tried this with virtual dub and the software that came with my tunertvcard but it happens all the time.
Could somebody tell me perhaps what I am doing wrong?

Perhaps your TV Card overheats (which causes lockups?)
If this is the case, then try leaving the computer off for a hour or so and try capturing again. If that fixes it, then that was the problem.

Another possiblity is that you should do these things before capturing - run ScanDisk on all your drives (Standard Scan), Defragment all your drives, and make sure to close outside programs that are running before you capture (check your system tray.)
