  1. When converting to mpegs, does it matter what the file format was originally? Like avi or wmv, etc? I'm still having probs with mine. Dunno if it has worked but my samsung 709 doesn't like playing them or if they just dont work at all!

    cheers

  2. Hi Bev! If you follow the conversion guides here thorougly, the type of source shouldn't be problem.

To really help you, wo would need more info. What's the original encoding of your files (check e. g. with VirtualDub) and what did you try to convert it to? MPEG-1, MPEG-2??

  3. Hi darkobserver,

I havent got virtualdub, but the original file was an avi file. I converted it using TMPGEnc and i've tried to burn using VCDEasy and Nero. Now the problem i've got is, i dont know if theyve worked or not. If they have my samsung 709 isn't reading them, if they havent, i don't know why they haven't. I've got about 50+ downloaded films so thought i'd try the first part of a film called serving sara for a test subject, as it's only 30 or 40-odd minutes long.

    Cheers

  4. Bev, if you don't give more details, we can't really help you. "An AVI" is not very specific. Is it a DivX? You definitely should get Virtualdub or another tool -I recommend "GSpot" that will give you the exact stats of your files.

First of all: Did you check the compatibility list on this site for your DVD player? If -for example- it can only play CD-RWs, but not CD-Rs and you burned to CD-R, you've already found the reason why they don't work.

Furthermore: Did you try to burn an SVCD or a VCD? And so on. Give us some meat <g> Or read the guides more thorougly.

Yes i have checked the compatibility and it says it plays vcd and svcd, but not cd-r or cd-rw. It also plays dvd-r and dvd+rw. Ahhh, looks like i've gotta get a dvd-rw drive then, eh?

    Thanx for all your help

  6. Hiya Bev. Don't worry, I am not exactly an expert on all this myself to be honest. I just started burning my own CD-RWs 2 weeks ago.

Hmm...Your movie is encoded in a Microsoft format MPEG4 V3 and has a weird framerate, but TMPGenc should convert it nicely. So my guess is, conversion is not your problem.

I also looked at the your player in the list. I recommend that you read the reports by other owners to be found there and maybe you can try the different media they list. Some of them say they got a certain CD-R to work and some even CD-RW. Who knows?

    Good luck

  7. Thanx a lot Ralf, you've been really helpful. I've tried the Phillips CDRW and still no luck, so i guess i'll just go through the list and see which works.

    Thanx again

Here's a virtual Beer for you!!!!

that movie IS convertable but no mater what you do to it - it will look not so good ... compressing 57 min down to 151 meg @ ~15fps w/ 56kb audio is pretty low quality ...

better to just watch it on your pc ..

  9. That movie is a bad quality one anyway, but i'm just using it as a test one. Thanx anyway

  10. *gulp* Thanks, Bev

One more thing: Try to burn with the lowest speed possible. Mine work best when burned at 2x and I use TDK 80min, 700MB.

And the other gentleman is correct: Best is to stop bothering and watch this file on your PC. Or try to "obtain" a file with better quality from...you know where.
