    Hi everyone,
I'm new. Could not figure out how to post a new thread on my own. Thanks to usually_qiuet for the sticky. And I'm am not a grave digger type, suggested by a poster.
Anyways, I'm using a camera at school to capture some footage; panasonic ag hmc40, cmos 3. I'm not sure what I touched while I'm out in the field, but a message, 'meta' , comes up on the screen. The camera eventually shuts off as I try to do something with it ( just anything to get it working). I don't know if anyone ever used this camera and had this situation occurred. Please help if you can, as I 'm stuff on my class project.
    Thank you

Looks to be one of the recording functions. From the operating manual:

    Meta-data recording:
The date, camera operator, location, title and other information can be
    added to the video data.
I found a manual online that might help:

  3. I have that same model but havenīt seen that message (or used that feature), you can reset the camcorder to factory specs, while in camera mode enter MENU/OTHER FUNCTIONS/MENU INIT, choose YES
@redwuz..Iīm afraid thatīs not the cammcorderīs manual, just a brochure of its features. I found my manual, but only the printed version (itīs like a short version, with only basic features explained) I canīt find the (more complet) PDF version, maybe there it explaims better the meta data recording or meta mark functions.

The one I was trying to show was: http://www.manualslib.com/manual/360791/Panasonic-Ag-Hmc40.html
It's 122 pages. But I didn't read it and it may not be exactly the right manual.
