Pardon my ignorance of the proper translation of the lingo used. Is the word "decrypt" the same as "rip", this means to to decrypt the software while copying it to your hard drive at the same time, is this correct?

To "encode" a file or disc, is this the same thing as to "shrink" a file so that it will fit on the blank disc?

MakeMKV can decrypt and rip DVD's to the hard drive for you, but will do so only in MKV format, without changing the video codecs used, or compressing it. DVDShrink is one option, but it will fail to decrypt some discs. The commercial version of DVDFab is another choice if you want the entire movie, menus and all, compressed to fit single layer discs. You can also use other decrypters, like the TDMore Free DVD program to get the whole movie to the hard drive, then compress with something else.

I stopped using DVDShrink a long time ago, and went to DVD Rebuilder, since it gives higher quality output, but it does not decrypt anything. There is a free version of DVD Rebuilder available.

I don't like DVDFab for much of anything, and I'd still recommend MakeMKV over it most of the time for decryption of Blu-ray. I am having a real problem understanding how to download BDRebuilder, it is a pain in the you know what if it is not a simple straight forward download which BDRebuilder is NOT.
