I am in the process of putting some SD footage on Blu-rays. When i import the footage, the default Kbps for a new track is 3000kbs. I know higher bitrates usually means better quality, but at a certain point, it stops making a difference. Does anyone have any ideas about what's a proper bitrate for SD footage when having TMPGENC author to blu-ray?
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays!

If the video is interlaced, MPEG2 in TMPGenc Author will give cleaner interlace results than x264, but it'syour choice. Either way, for SD, getting above 8000 kbps starts giving diminisihing returns, but I regualarly use 10000 for a lot of motion. That's VBR, you can stick with 15000 max and around 8000-10000 target.
The maximum bitrates, GOP sizes, etc., for SD BluRay in h264/AVC/MPEG are in tables on this page: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=154533Last edited by LMotlow; 1st Apr 2015 at 13:54.
