Ok so i was trying to convert 1080p anime from mkv to mp4 (X264 Encoding)
and megui gives me a instant error in the queue tab
what am i doing wrong here??
i thought maybe my codecs were the problem so i have uninstalled all of them and now am wondering which codecs properly work with MEGUi x264 encoding
Please Help![]()

i want to re encode so i can play it on my xbox
The audio encodes perfectly Fine
the error comes just after 1 second when i press the queue tab For VIDEO
it was before re encoding fine when i chose AVC level Unristricted/Autoguess
but then later i found that xbox plays best on avc level 4.1
So changed it to Avc level 4.1 and also disabled b-pyramid but then i got the error -
(I don't answer to the request but) with Free Make Video, it's possible to convert a .mkv file to .mp4, I already did that and with a 1080p video too.
But maybe there are two unexpected things, it will depend of the file, but sometimes when I converted a mkv to mp4, and wanting to play it on a TV (who could not play mkv) the tv can't play the video.
With the software's normal version, at the end of your video (already converted in mp4) there is the "freemake" logo that appears for 3 seconds on a black background. It's no big deal I think.Last edited by WazaKrash; 20th Jan 2015 at 04:42.

---[Error] [20/01/2015 11:55:41] x264 [error]: ratecontrol_init: can't open stats file
If you do try Tx264... Click on general and change the profile to high, the level to 4.1, the preset to slower and the tune to Animation. Then click on 'Custom Options' and paste this: --bframes 3 --ref 3 --vbv-bufsize 24000 --vbv-maxrate 24000 into the x264 command line. Also instead of using 2-pass (1100Kbps for 1080p seems low to me) I recommend you use CRF mode.Last edited by Acımasız; 20th Jan 2015 at 09:18. Reason: Fixed a mistake

I'd start by trying what the log file suggests. Go into MeGUI's options an under the external programs configuration tab, uncheck the x264 64 bit option. That should get MeGUI to use the 32 bit x264 encoder and should also take avs4x264 out of the equation (it's required when Avisynth is 32 bit and the x264 encoder is 64 bit).
Also, try switching to the portable (included) version of Avisynth rather than the "installed" one. Theoretically it shouldn't make any difference, but sometimes odd things happen (and I find the portable version can be a tad faster when using slow filtering).
Any plugins in the "installed' AVISynth plugin folder will still auto-load even when MeGUI's using the portable version.
Not related, but:
--[Information] [20/01/2015 11:55:40] changing --ref to 4
What was it before MeGUI/x264 decided to change it? I'm just curious why it did. -
Slow preset uses 5 and Animation tune doubles it to 10. The 'max stored frames' (reference frames) for 1920x1080 at level 4.1 is 4.

Hi I Am using '2pass - 2nd pass' NOT 'Automated 2pass'
Hi I Disabled The 64 bit option but now i get this error

Disabling 64 bit x264 was just a "see if it makes a difference" thought.
A closer look indicates the error is occurring after attempting to run a 2nd pass (--pass 2 in the command line). I assume the 1st pass has been configured and run errrr..... 1st?
I'd agree with trying the automated 2 pass idea. It's easier.
I'd also suggest trying the "AutoEncode" method instead. You can leave the x264 encoder in CRF mode and when adding a job to the queue you're given an option to select a bitrate or file size. If you do, MeGUI will switch to 2 pass encoding for you. That way you don't need to set a bitrate in the x264 encoder configuration for each encode. Or, if you have automated 2 pass configured in the x264 encoder, AutoEncode can over-ride the bitrate.
In case you're not aware......
The AutoEncode method includes any audio loaded into audio section for encoding, and after specifying a file size it's included in the bitrate calculation (the file size/bitrate specified will be the video and audio bitrates combined) but if you use the "X" button to clear the audio section first it can't be included (although you can optionally add existing audio to the AutoEncode job).
There's nothing wrong with using the automated 2 pass method in the x264 encoder configuration. It'll probably let you specify/obtain a more accurate bitrate. Auto Encode includes container overhead etc in the bitrate calculation so it can be a bit less accurate, but I find it convenient for also specifying an output file size for just the video.Last edited by hello_hello; 20th Jan 2015 at 13:14.

yeee it works nowww
all i had to do was disable the x264 64 Bit Option and Switch to 'Automated 2pass'
thankx u all MaY u All Get Eternal Life
Now I Have to just figure out how to HardSub
