  1. I was just wondering what the optimum RAM is needed to capture from analog to digital.

I am using a DVC80 (Dazzle) to connect my Hi8 camcorder to my HP 5440 notebook (P3 850Mhz, 256RAM, 20Gig, Win2K) and the capture software I'm using is Pinnacle Studio 7...everything seems to work great, even during capture (no frames dropped), however, when I play back the .AVI file, I notice that at regular intervals, it seems that there is a quick pause (?)...as if a frame has been dropped...

I guess my question is, why is this so, as even during capture, I notice no frames being dropped...and is my RAM adequate for such a task? thanks...

Capturing, and even more so, encoding is almost 100 % CPU driven. You should have no problem with your set-up, that is backed up, and shown by no dropped frames. Obviously prior to encoding or capping, shut down all un needed services and programs and you should be AOK
