You might want to be a little more specific if anyone is going to be able to help you!
What capture card do you have?
What source are you capturing from?
How is your source connected to your capture card?
What settings are you using in VirtualDub?
I'm not trying to be unhelpful, but unless you answer at least some of these questions, you're relying on someone being a clairvoyant and gazing into their crystal ball!!
post again & we might be able to help.

Sorry about that, I'm just really annoyed. LOL.
I use WinTV to capture. Its just plain old WinTV, and I got it about 2 years ago. Its hooked up to my computer through USB and the other half of it is hooked up to my VCR & the sound source is hooked up to my microphone jack, because there is no other place to put it into.
I can capture audio & video find through the WinTV, but not through Virtual Dub.
As for the settings in Virtual Dub, I tried using the settings that are listed in the capture guide on this site. It didn't work, so then I tried the default.
Are you supposed to hear the sound when capturing through Virtual Dub? As I can't hear it then either.

hit start...run... type this in exactly
sndvol32 -r
once this is up, select (enable) the device that is inputting the sound...if its the mic port, enable that. If its the line input (which is what its suppost to be) enable that. -
Ok, well the Mic is selected, so I tried to capture that way, it didn't work, then I selected the Line in, and that didn't work either.
I just don't understand why it can capture through WinTV no problem, but doesn't have any sound when I capture though Virtual Dub. The only reason I want to capture through Virtual Dub is because it seems to come out more clear -

start your source, and you should be able to see it move.
If it don't move then you either don't have to correct cable connected or the correct sound source selected.
If it is moving an you still are not getting sound then you have other problems.
I did find this in the VirtualDub documentation:
if you have a Hauppauge WinTV, check for an AUDIOSEL.EXE application on your hard disk or driver CD. It can be used to force the audio pass-through on for those cards
