Is there anybody who tried this tool to fix aspect ratios?
http://www.idealshare.net/video-converter/change-video-aspect-ratio.html
I don't know if this is a trusted site/download?
With VideoGo for the Mac one should be able to fix aspect ratio issues with MPEG2's.
I don't know of any other tool for the Mac that can do this.

make a search

- myDVDedit can fix the aspect ratio of your DVD-VIDEO tracks = before burning it
- my soft MovieConverter Studio can change an mpeg from aspect ratio 4:3 <-> 16:9 without re-encoding (menu item "Studio…" > module "Modify". PS: the app is a shareware, but this feature is free, no need to register the app to use it

Herve, I made a search, but didn't come across the tools you mention. But thanks very much for mentioning My Soft MovieConverter Studio!my soft MovieConverter Studio can change an mpeg from aspect ratio 4:3 <-> 16:9 without re-encoding (menu item "Studio…" > module "Modify".
I tried it, and indeed, the Modify feature is free. I succeeded in stretching out an anamorphic 4:3 to 16:9, without encoding.
Here's a sample of the original MPEG2 file:

The funny thing is, it's from a vintage tv broadcast. So the original aspect ratio is 4:3. The DVD editor then cropped the top and bottom, to make it widescreen, and then forgot to flag it 16:9.Last edited by HitTheRoad; 25th Nov 2013 at 11:24.

I must say, the installation of MovieConvertor Studio was rather unusual. It raised some questions:
Why do I have to select PAL or NTSC during an installation proces? In some cases I want PAL , in other cases i want NTSC.
To get MovieConverter-Studio installed one has to allow it to automatically download and install additional tools. I wander if this can be trusted.
Why do I have to tell MovieConverter-Studio to what software I use for editing?
Why do I have to select the modules I want to use DURING the installation process? Can't this wait?

you just try one minor tool from the app, the install /setting wizard is for the whole app (so more accurate)
the app convert standards (from/to PAL<->NTSC)Why do I have to select PAL or NTSC during an installation proces? In some cases I want PAL , in other cases i want NTSC.
So you must select your default standard (stored in prefs), to conform every file to this target.
PS: you can change it in the options if you need a different target, but the aim is to standardize resulting files.
trust? To get MovieConverter-Studio installed one has to allow it to automatically download and install additional tools. I wander if this can be trusted.

…a very funny word about the internet (but I promise I will not spam you or send virus
).
Like almost all video softwares, my soft uses the great Library "FFmpeg". If you want to use the app, you have to download this component (and because of patents in some countries, this great free and open-source tool is maybe not adapted to you…).
PS: all softwares uses the FFmpeg library, but they don't tell the legal part to you, that's all.
to conform editing outputs to your software needs (eg: the old iMovieHD likes "raw DV", others softs like "dv video track + not compressed audio track, both wrapped in a .mov", etc)Why do I have to tell MovieConverter-Studio to what software I use for editing?
Inform about your editing software, and the app will conform the result to your needs.
no really important, it's just an option to customize the app. eg: you only wanted to use the "modify" module? select the additional modules at startup (and you avoid one click at startup to directly reach the module you want to useWhy do I have to select the modules I want to use DURING the installation process? Can't this wait?
)
