Thanks to Vicflange for the original hack. Only unlocks DVD, not BD.

TRY IT AT YOUR OWN RISK! You could brick your player!

Using a OneForAll URC-7562 remote (also reported as working with OneForAll URC-7960, and URC-7740).

    1. Hold the “magic button” until the TV LED flashes twice.
    2. Switch to DVD by pressing the DVD button.
    3. Press 0533 (DVD LED flashes twice)

    4. Hold the magic button until the DVD LED flashes twice.
    5. Press 994 (DVD LED flashes twice)
    6. Press Magic Key (don't hold)
    7. Press 00189
    8. Press 1 (This sets it to key 1 – DVD LED flashes twice, if not repeat steps 4 to 8)

    9. Hold the magic button until the red led flashes twice.
    10. Press 994 (DVD LED flashes twice)
    11. Press Magic Key (don't hold)
    12. Press 00255
    13. Press 2 (this sets it to key 2 - DVD LED flashes twice)

    14. Hold the magic button until the red led flashes twice.
    15. Press 994 (DVD LED flashes twice)
    16. Press Magic Key (don't hold)
    17. Press 00095
    18. Press 3 (this sets it to key 3 - DVD LED flashes twice)

    19. Hold the magic button until the red led flashes twice.
    20. Press 994 (DVD LED flashes twice)
    21. Press Magic Key (don't hold)
    22. Press 00221
    23. Press 4 (this sets it to key 4 - DVD LED flashes twice)

    24. Hold the magic button until the red led flashes twice.
    25. Press 994 (DVD LED flashes twice)
    26. Press Magic Key (don't hold)
    27. Press 00079
    28. Press 5 (this sets it to key 5 - DVD LED flashes twice)

    -----------------
The remote is now programmed and ready to use, to make the Sony BDP- S3100 region free:

    1. Use the Sony remote that came with the player to bring the player out of standby and make sure there isn't a disc in it.
    2. Make sure you have a clear line of sight with the S3100. Press 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 on the OneForAll remote, one after each other, firmly and with a slight delay between the numbers. There is nothing to indicate that it has worked at this stage.
    3. Put the player back into standby with the Sony remote.
    4. Hard reboot machine by unplugging it completely from the power, after a few seconds plug it back in
    5. Next time you turn on the player it should be region free for DVD playback.
    6. If this doesn’t work the first time it is worth trying again as it is easy to get part of the process wrong.

    Good Luck

Then you are out of options.

Just so you know for the future, Sony and Samsung make the most difficult to unlock DVD and BD players in the world. if you buy one of their players then you should do so assuming that you will never be able to unlock it and be happy that you beat the odds if you do somehow unlock it.

  7. Hello to everyone,

    - Has this hack been tested on Sony BDP-S1100 Blu-Ray players sold in U.S.A.?

Mine was purchased at U.S.A and I'm not sure if the hack would work..

I would need to buy a OneForAll remote to make it region-free for DVD, that's why I really appreciate a feedback

    Thank you very much

In my opinion.....and probably the opinion of many others.....it's not worth the risk. Not the risk of destroying the machine....just the risk that it won't work because the hack never worked in the first place. 99% of the people posting hacks here are NOT regular members here.....and it often seems that people just get their jollies posting complete bullsh!t hacks.

    Hi, thanks for your reply.

I'm not really afraid of bricking the unit, but instead (in my case) I'm not sure if it's worth buying a specific OneForAll remote to hack it.

I am somehow confident the hack worked, as it tells here: https://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/sony-bdp-s1100/12163

(although I can't see how long has that person been member of this forum)

    - But after further readings I realized that all people who said it works, are using Blu Ray players purchased in Europe, not in USA. (maybe I'm wrong..?)

    - So that's why I would really appreciate a feedback from someone who hacked a Sony BDP-S1100 purchased in USA.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

Probably won't work for a US machine. The OP was in Norway, which is why I posted that rather long-winded hack.

We have NEVER had a report of ANY DVD or BD player sold by Sony in the USA/Canada in the past 5 years or so that has been hacked to become region free even for just DVD playback. The only reports of success have been of a very small number of Sony players sold in Europe and a slightly larger number of Sony players sold in Australia. The odds are probably 99% against a USA Sony player ever being hacked. We had exactly ONE unconfirmed (I use that term because I do not necessarily trust the submitter, who is not a forum regular) report of a Samsung BD player sold in the USA that got unlocked for DVD region free playback via a code.

  12. Thanks to all.

It seems very hard to find a reliable report especially for Blu-ray players purchased in USA. Too bad

I'll try to do a bit more research, not very optimistic though...

    Thanks a lot

If I had to buy a region free BD player in the USA these days, I'd probably buy from a place like http://www.220-electronics.com/ or some similar seller. They sell hardware modified players that can become region free. The various Hollywood studios put pressure on the manufacturers to not release even DVD players in North America that can be made region free. So there is a resulting cat and mouse game where sometimes the manufacturers insist that none of their players can be made region free in North America and then when it gets out that one can, down the road they put out a firmware that takes that ability away. A few smaller manufacturers tried to introduce region free BD players into North America (always with the official denial that the players could be made region free) but right now I don't know about any manufacturers at all that are even trying to do this. I've heard of a few Philips BD players that may still be able to be made region free only for DVD playback, but those don't convert between PAL and NTSC. As best I can tell they do still make a few DVD players that can be made region free by entering a code, but my information is not current so interested parties should do their own research.
