I have an LG TV (32LD550) that has an internal software player and USB ports so I can plug an external HDD with videos on it directly into my TV and play the videos. When watching a video, if I hit the back or exit button on the remote (which takes me back to the video selection menu) and I select the same video I just exited (without clicking on another video in-between) either 1 of 2 things will happen. 1. the video will just start playing from the beginning or 2. a box will pop up and ask me if I want to resume playback from the previous spot.
I am wondering what about the video makes this happen? It's NOT codec specific, because it has happened with both MKV and AVI (and I think MP4). I want to make all videos have this feature, so my TV will always ask me if I want to resume. At first I thought it was just any file with chapters included in the container, but recently I came across a few videos with chapters, and it still didn't ask me. It would just start at the beginning.
When remuxing a video in MKVmerge (one of the videos, where it DID ask me), There were no unusual files in the container, no global tags, or attachments... just the video/audio/chapters/subtitles. I've never really worked with chapters before, so not sure if there are different kinds? Like with subtitles, you can have multiple different formats. Maybe that is the culprit. Anyways, If anyone knows how to solve this problem, I'd appreciate any help, thanks

This is because you did not stop the playback by pressing stop button. I had the similar problem with samsung tv. The last position was not remembered if I turn the tv off while playing a video. The playback should be finished in normal way to remember the last status.
Hope it helps you. -
Its not that (at least for LG TV's). I NEVER use the stop button. I always exit the video by pressing either back/or exit. The video's that can be resumed still are resumeable no matter which button I use stop or exit.
IMO, it has to be something about the file, not the TV/remote, because between the videos that do and don't resume, the only thing different is the file
