  1. I have WinXP, Hau. WinTV, 100GB empty disk space.

I want to capture video from old VHS camcorder.

Whats the best capture software for this?

    Thanks in advance.

If you have 100 gig of available scratch space, and a Hauppage card, you can't beat Huffyuv and Virtual Dub to capture. See under CAPTURE (to the left) as to how to capture with it (top guide)

  4. Thanks for the ideas.

I gather this solution is an "on-the-fly" compression solution.

Re: the Huffy solution, I have been avoiding "on-the-fly" compression believing that my processor is not fast enough to do this wthout losing frames. Is this a real problem? I havent tried with Huffy.

Even with plenty of space huffyuv is most often HD constrained because if it's sustained bandwidth required.

  7. I've had really good luck with WinVCRII from my Hau. WinTV card with capturing stuff off the TV tuner. With my 900 MHz Athlon I am able to compress on the fly to a pretty good SVCD size MPEG-2. If you don't want MPEG-2 compression try Scenalyzer. I just started playing with it and it seems very functional!

  8. The only WDM capture program that keeps A/V in sync on long captures is VirtualVCR.
http://www.digtv.ws IuVCR doesn't work right in that respect.

    Have fun,
    Robert
