With Tmpeg ( MPEG tools ):
demux the file into a video and an audio ( simple demux )

    then
make simple mux of your two files with a MPEG 1 header ( important to check it before starting the process )
    It s a fast process ( with a "current PC" )

Finally , Burn a CD with Nero ( Video CD )
    ( desactivate standard compliance )

Your CD will behave and taste like a VCD ! but it's a SVCD

I have tried 352*288 resolution ( VCD PAL resolution ) and 480*576 ( SVCD PAL ) it works.
Bitrate usally from 1500 to 2500 ( not tried higher )
It works fine on my Sony DVP NS 305 ( not SVCD compliant )
I ve tried to burn SCVD files on a nero VCD but without the demux-remux trick , it freeze .

Is anybody tried other resolution / bitrate that works fine?

    thx Cyrille

    absolutely !

    using Tmepg .

usally I convert a single DivX into 2 VCD ( or SVCD )
    bitrate 1500 bps to 1700 bps for a 1h30 to 2h movie

don't forget to adapt resolution if necessary

    PAL 480 x 576 pixels 25 frames/second
    NTSC 480 x 480 pixels 29,97 frames/second or 23,976 frames/second
    for standard rez.

cause somme DivX have strange resolution not compliant with all DVD players.
