Oh now I remember the problem with VSDC. For some reason, I could add things like rectangles fine, but my audio file wouldn't work properly. The box would pop up with all the configuration stuff, but it wouldn't appear in the timeline thingy. Shame to, looked like pretty good editing software for my needs.

Good suggestions have been given (and not just by me). You seem to be ignoring them as well as not fully responding, so I'm done for now...

Sorry if I haven't responded to some posts, but I've tried all the programs that have been suggested

Should it absolutely be Windows? If not, there's the absolutely free, per all your criteria, on a wing and a prayer, Cinelerra for Ubuntu Linux...
Strictly DIY, but after putting together, say, a DV clip, Premiere's learning curve, to me, didn't seem too steep after all in comparison, eons ago....
Tamam, Hikmet bey. Nasıl bugün......? NeredesınFor the nth time, with the possible exception of certain Intel processors, I don't have/ever owned anything whose name starts with "i". -
Blender: Too complicated, can't figure out how to use it
AVIDemux: Can't get multiple audio tracks working (Do they both need to be the same format?)
Lightworks: Can't remember the problem, but I uninstalled it, so it must have been bad somehow. Limited free uses anyhow.
VirtualDub: Only 1 file at a time
XmediaRecode: Ditto
MKVToolnix: Having trouble with audio
Audacity: demux remux what?
MediaInfo: Not a editor as far as I see
VVSDC Free Video Editor: Can't get the audio file added to the timeline
Cinelerra: Do not have linux, no room on SSD for partitions

Whew. -
VirtualDub can append AVI files if they have identical characteristics. Use File -> Open Video File to open the first, File -> Append AVI Segment to append others (if they're named with sequential numbers it will append all of them automatically). It only handles one audio track though. VirtualDubMod is similar but can handle multiple audio tracks.
-
You are looking for one program that does it all, not sure if that is a good idea
-You can join videos in one program, try to get some container that works, as long as there is no out of sync issue
-re-encode that > getting video2 in some encoder
-use mkvmerge for example, load both videos and choose what tracks you want to keep.
Or other scenarios, even more complicated etc... -
Yes, use the right tool for the job. Don't look for one tool that does everything, it won't do a good job.
-
I tried VirtualDubMod and was able to set up everything the way I liked it, but it crashed when I started processing. Oddly enough, I was able to preview the video. Going to try and pinpoint the problem.
-
It appears the problem has to do with enabling full processing mode on the audio
-
OK, the problem only happens when I enable FPM on the original audio, not the external. Gonna try to process it. Everything should hopefully be working now

IMO, Virtualdub is the best free video editor but it needs help from many other programs (not really programs but plugins, decoders and encoders. I will call them tools. Most video editing programs are just frontends for some other commandline decoder/encoder.
If you take the time to learn how to use these tools then there isn't a lot lot that Virtualdub can't do. It won't give you fancy transitions that a $100 or more program will give you but it can do transitions if you learn how to use filters in blend mode with the curve editor. IMO, all those fancy transitions ruin a film anyway. All that is really needed is a fade to and from black between scenes.
With the addition of input plugins, you can edit just about any type of file and the addition of the external encoder, you can encode to most file types and containers. It's not just the basic AVI editor that it was years ago. I wish the VH mods would update the Virtualdub section because it is really way outdated. It will take a lot of work with input from others to bring it up to date.
There are a lot of commandline tools out there and some good frontends but IMO, knowledge is key and if we could all help each other use the tools instead of looking for that one program that will do it all with the push of a button, we'll all be better off.
Avisynth should be on all of our PCs. ffdshow, ffmpeg, mkvtoolnix, mymp4box, lame.exe, neroAacEnc.exe, aften.exe and x264.exe. You can search for them, get them here or download another decent program from Selur called Hybrid which has all the decoders and encoders that you'd need in one folder. You can create Webm with ffmpeg and oggenc2.exe. You can create FLV with ffmpeg and you can create WMV9 with 5.1 audio.
The biggest problem I'm having right now is muxing anything in Virtualdub with ffmpeg. I can do it with ffmpeg by itself but everything fails in Virtualdub because of a file naming issue since you have to create the filename first and ffmpeg won't overwrite it. Trying to change the extension doesn't work since ffmpeg just rewrites the extension. If I leave the muxer out then everything is fine. It's not a big problem since I can use a batch script to mux everything but that's an extra step that should be able to be avoided since mp4box and mkvmerge don't have the same issue. Speaking of muxers, there's a great program that used to ship with with Haali media splitter called Gdsmux (not sure if it still does). It's a front end for Dsmux.exe which might solve my muxing problems if I knew the command for muxing files. It will mux webm, ts, mkv and a few others.
Well, I'm starting to ramble so I'll shut up. Just want to end with, there isn't one perfect program but a whole lot of good free tools if everyone will just take the time to learn how to use them. -
If your project can be done in less than 30 days, Vegas Movie Studio has a free trial. (Going back to Aedipuss's very first reply to your post.) If you decide you like it, the previous version is available for as little as $22 -- not free, but a lot less headaches.

Also as a note, your video size is non-standard -- 1280x720 is usual.Last edited by smrpix; 12th Jun 2013 at 07:25.

Without knowing the info of all the AVI files, I'm not sure what to suggest. By looking at the mediainfo that you posted, it looks like you tried to join all the AVI files but they did not join and somehow you got two audio files of different lengths. There are different ways to do it but if the AVI files don't match you're going to have to recode them to the same which Virtualdub can do, making sure you use the same setting for all the files.
If the AVIs are the same, you can use MKVMerge to append all the files together. Somewhere along the line, you're going to have to use an audio editor to turn the two audio files into one stereo track. This can be done in Audacity. Export the stereo track as AC3.
Then you can add the newly created audio track to your MKV with MKVMerge and remove the original audio track and save as finished H264/AC3/MKV.
I guess the comfusing part for me is seeing an AVI with H264 and an mpeg audio file. Not sure how you got those. -

I just tried VirtualDubMod and it worked great! Thanks for the suggestion
