  1. Unfortunately the video has to be encoded using the same method and encoder settings etc or it can't be joined together. The same applies to audio. I don't mess around with TS files much but if MKVMergeGUI can't join them I'd suspect nothing will.

Video To Video Converter has a "join files" function you could try (under the tools menu). If that doesn't work you might have to re-encode the ts files you're wanting to join as one single encoding job. I'm pretty sure Video To Video Converter will let you join multiple input files together and output a single encoding job. If not, I'm fairly sure AnyVideoConverter can do it. I've no idea if AVIdemux can as I don't use it.

That's the strange thing - both clips came from exactly the same source. It just seems that one of them got corrupted. Thanks for the additional recommendations - I'll add them to the list!

cannot be appended to the track number 1 from the file 'D:\Downloads\Video\....ts'. The track parameters do not match.
So Add just the video with two audio tracks. Untick one of the audio tracks. Mux that into an MKV file. Clear all tracks. Add the other TS file, Append the new MKV file, Mux.

Trying that I get "The formats do not match" when I try to mux the clips together
