well my experience that to destroy macrovison u need a speacial device between dvdplayer to your VCR. But u can do this way it works for me.
1-normally connect from dvdplayer to your tv
2-from TV- video out, audio out to your VCR
    3- play and record.

some of dvdplayer made in china, they build in the codec which can let u directly record to your vcr . well try out the method above .
    good luck men

I have a VHS VCR connected this way, via the TV. This method will never work on a macrovision protected DVD movie. However, not all DVD's have macrovision protection in the disk. There are some movies and musicvideos that I can record into a VHS tape.

My computer is not effected by macrovision either. I can also record a DVD into my computer as a digital video such as MPEG2 or DivX. You can also rip a DVD into a blank video CD, see this web site for info. Not all that bad.

On macrovision protected disks, the only way the record them into a video tape is to use an old BETA or Video 8 VCR. I have done this without a problem as macrovision only applies to recent VHS VCR's.

Anyway, I don't record very many. I usually hire a DVD, then if good enough, record into an old VCR. All goes well.
