If you poke around a bit, you'll find that OCZ SSDs have come in for more than their share of complaints. Unstable firmware mostly, as jman says, or botched upgrades. Especially for Indilinx and Sandforce controller drives. Maybe it's no longer true for their newer drives, I dunno, but there you are.
In addition to my Vertex (Indilinx Barefoot controller), I have an OCZ Agility 3 (Sandforce controller) in another computer. I never did succeed in updating the firmware on that one, and have done a secure erase and restore from image at least twice. It's still working though.
Most people have no idea that there are a few things they can try to recover an SSD. They just pitch them or do an RMA if within the return window. I spent a fair amount of time at the OCZ forum and read a lot of threads.![]()
