  1. Can anyone help me figure out how to make a VCD that plays in a DVD player (I do that by itself now), but would also include PC files for some html pages, graphics, maybe an executable, etc.? I would like to be able to author a CD that plays a movie on the player, yet has additional content for the PC user.

I also see reference to CD-I in VCD Easy. What is the definition of that?

    Thanks,

  2. VCDEasy can do all that. CD-I is short for CD-Interactive, a reference to an old hardware platform. Don't worry about that, if you had one you'd know it.

Just use VCDEasy to author your disc, and put whatever PC related contect you want to add on the ISO files tab.

I did a little experiment earlier today. I tested to see if I could view still pictures burned into a VCD on computer. Media player plays videos on a vcd but will NOT display/play stills. so, I made a new folder, called it PHOTOS and placed regular windows compatable phjotos in that folder.

Worked just fine, I tested it on several DVD players and they just ignore the non-standard folder with the computer friendly pictures.

I think there is 99 picture limit on a VCD. There was lots of free space on the CD for other uses.

I used NERO, slected VCD and the stills as normal, them created a NEW folder, named it PHOTOS and dragged and dropped the computer friendly pics in it. Now I can make slide show VCDs with computer friendly pics all on 1 disk.

There is no 99 photos limit, it is just a limition by nero(you can add more but they may not work with all dvd players). Use any other authoring tool and you can have up to about 2000 images on vcd, www.vcdhelp.com/author.htm#photo

Thanks for teh tip on the 99 photo limit being a Nero issue.

But that still does not get around teh not being able to easily view photos on the computer.

I have no interest in putting much more than 99 on a single VCD anyway, so making another non-std folder and placing higher resolution photos in it for computer is no problem as long as it does not bother playing of the vcd photos/slide show on DVD.

  7. Some players, like Mintek, will play a slideshow if you put all your jpegs in the root of a regular cdr.

  8. You can make S/VCD still mpeg images that can be authored onto a S/VCD to be played back on a stand-alone player (e.g., DVD player). To view these on a PC, you will need to have a software DVD player that understands how to read a VCD (e.g., PowerDVD or WinDVD). Windows Media player doesn't play "VCDs" per se. It can just play the MPEG files on a VCD.

The maximum number of "still mpeg images" on a VCD is 1980.

As for putting other PC files onto a S/VCD (e.g., JPEG images), these can only be viewed on the PC. A DVD player will just ignore them unless you have a special player that can play JPEGs off a disc.

    Regards.
