  1. I have some DivX movie in 23.976 fp and would like to convert them to DVD, I did convert the files to MPEG-2 in TMPG, but when I try to use the file in maestro or scenarist I get error message that the file is illegal because it expects a file in 29.97 fps for NTSC. It's really important to me to to keep the file in 23.976, is there any way to use it?

Are you doing '3:2 pulldown' when you encode the 24fps stream?
An NTSC Mpeg2 stream has to be 3:2 pulldown'd for 24fps video or Interlaced for 29.97 fps.

  3. I didn't create the file using '3:2 pulldown'. My source file was 23.976 fps not 24, should I still use the pulldown?

I would try the 3:2 pulldown. Scenarist won't accept non-DVD standard streams. You can't have 24fps without 3:2 pulldown.

  5. OK, things are now strange, I used a program called Pulldown, that performs 2:3 pulldown (wtf is that?) on the 23.976 fps M2V file and the result was a file with 29.97 fps, and when I try to use it in Maestro it accepts the file but says that this is PAL and wants to change to 25 fps, Scenarist won't accept the file at all. When I use the the 3:2 pulldown option on TMPG, the file is fine in Maestro and identified as NTSC, but still, Scenarist won't accept it. Also, the file is way more interlaced than the file created by Pulldown. All this stuff is really weird to me and I will be very glad if someone could clear thing up for me a bit.

  6. I struggled with this myself but if you use the search function you will find a wealth of how to's on this.

Simply explained, the DVD spec calls for a frame rate of 29.97 fps (NTSC).

However the NTSC spec for film is 23.97. So movies that are being made to DVD from film use a process called "Telecine" to achive the required 29.97 fps.

What you need to do is this.

load your asset up in Tmpenc and check the source tab, make sure that it's listed as "non-intelaced"

On the first tab, change "non-interlaced" to "3:2 when play back" up top on the same tab this should automaticaly change the frame rate to "23.97 (29.97 internally)"

go ahead and encode your video. I use this on all of the movies I make in Maestro and never have a problem.

I'm working in the assumption that you have a progressive source as an asset.

    Hope This Helps
