  1. I have clips from a Canon HF100 HD camcorder (HD 25fps/1080i). When I upload these to youtube, I see kind of 'wavy' results with artefacts.

  2. I didn't see any wavy artifacts. But I saw a jerky flickery picture when there was motion. Is that what you're talking about? That comes from reducing the video from 50 fields per second to 25 frames per second. There's not much you can do about that as far as Youtube is concerned. You should avoid bright high contrast panning shots. Pan slower to reduce the flicker. Use depth of field to blur the background when possible.

    Find a player (MPCHC, VLC) that will play your youtube video a double the original speed, ie 50 fps. You'll see it doesn't flicker as much.
