  1. Hi guys,
a couple of days ago I did my first DVB-T recording, from receiver to USB flash drive.
Now I have a directory with a bunch of MPEG files called 0001, 0002, ...
They are MPEG-2 TS, according to GSpot, they are all 505MB, exept the second last (84.6MB) and the last one (0 byte).
There is also a INFO.RCD file into the directory.
I am completely new at this.
What I would like to achieve is to reunite all the files, cut out commercials and put it on a DVD (maybe reauthoring with IFOEdit? I don't know) so that it can be played by my stand-alone DVD player (and possibly, by the DVB receiver too via USB drive), all this without re-encoding to avoid quality loss.
    Is it possible?
    How?

If you provide the make and model of your receiver, I think you will have a better chance at getting a useful reply.

I have to tell you that many recording devices either encrypt recordings or use a proprietary file system to prevent what you are trying to do.

If this is true I don't see the point of having a recording/playback USB port on the device.
    Anyway the receiver is:

    TELE System TS6282

(it's an Italian brand I think, even if the device is "Made in China").

    Web Site

Edit: I don't know if this is helpful but the flash drive filesystem is FAT32.

To watch them later on the receiver?

I have a receiver here in Germany that records without copy protection. Just play one of the files on your computer(I use VLC). I use AviDemux to join and edit my recordings, but the audio needs to be re-synced on EVERY recording.....easy to do in AviDemux.

Yes. In the US, satellite receivers may have a USB port to add an external hard drive so the receiver can be used as a DVR, or to increase storage capacity on a receiver that has an internal hard drive. Not only are the files on the hard drives encrypted, but they can only be played back on the individual receiver that made them.

I know from other posts that paid conditional access services are popular in Italy, and these services could have copy protection requirements for compatible receivers.

Those files are probably just TS segments which are splitted without extra header info.
I have a (USB) DVBC receiver (Siemens M750C) which works just like that.
Trying to join those files with a regular editor will be problematic because you will get breakups/sync errors at the joints.
For this situation i always use the tool ProjectX,
With it you should be able to load/join all the TS segments, do some (very basic) edit/cutting and then demux or remux the recordings to regular Mpeg2 format.

  7. Here I am again.
    Thanks to all for replying.

    @heck54/usually_quiet
as far as I understand the files are not encrypted, I can play them with MPC. Problem is some files are played, some are like "freezed" on the first frame. Also, when I play a file the duration is nonsense (like 7 hours).

I was thinking about testing this method:
    - load all the files into DGIndex and demux the audio (done).
    - join all the video files (no audio) with Avidemux.
    - remux audio and video with VirtualDub-MPEG2 (resync if needed).

    @The_Doman
thanks for the tip pal, I will give it a try.

So you demuxed the pieces of video before you joined them? That's not something I would do.

  9. No.
I loaded all the files (0001, 0002, ...) in DGIndex and demuxed the audio.
It gave me the audio of the entire sequence of files.

Anyway, I found a way to do what I want, thanks to The_Doman.
I loaded all the files in Project-X (left all the options as they are, most of them look like Japanese to me), made the cuts then saved (demuxed).
So I ended up with the .m2v and .mp2 files, reauthored them with IfoEdit and now I have my VIDEO_TS folder with IFOs, BUPs and VOBs.
After a fast check the audio seems to be in sync.
If this method works everytime I achieved my goal.
    But...
the VIDEO_TS folder is less than 2GB, I was wondering if it is possible to store more than one DVD folder into a single DVD-R (no point in wasting valuable space).

You can get the video of the entire thing at the same time. Rather than File->Save Project, go File->Save Project and Demux Video.

No, not separate VIDEO_TS folders, not and play them both as DVDs. But there's no reason you can't create a single DVD with 2 (or more) titles in it by authoring them properly. Even freebies such as DVDAuthorGUI can do something like that easily. I do it all the time.

You are right, didn't think about that 'cause I usually work with DGIndex to demux audio and create the .d2v file.

    Shoot, I knew it!
Thanks for the tip, I have to see if I can figure how to do it.
