oh yeah, and unless you don't mind losing cinematics, some audio, and the game crashing, you gotta use DVD-R. And even then you will need a recent mod-chip and possibly also a gameshark. All this considered plus the fact that some games will take multiple tries (and only use the best media if you want them to work) and you will realize that the cost in time and money is probrably not worth it.

My advice (if you really have a problem with buying games) get a modchip installed and buy backups from an importer. They will be professionally made (maybe in micronesia) and they will cost about the same, except you won't spend hours (and days...) agonizing over why your third try still won't boot.

  4. Assuming the above was for PS2.

Currently the best (only?) way to rip Xbox games is to:
    1. Get a modchip installed.
    2. Install (or boot from) the Evolution X dashboard
    3. Use FTP program on PC to link to the Xbox
    4. Transfer files from Xbox DVD drive to PC hard drive
    5. Use xIso to creat an iso image from the files you just transfered
    6. Burn to CD/DVD

This is very basic info - For more detailed info go to www.xboxhacker.net
I suggest just diggin around the forums for a while and not outright asking how to rip games there (The response will not be favorable...)
The infomation is all there, you just have to find it..

What about spanning games across multiple CD-R's? I've seen spanned games, but is it a hassle to span them yourself?

that was the point I was making. I have heard about too many problems with using cd-r's when copying a dvd-rom game (and if it fit on a cdr it would be pressed on a cdr - unless you are talking about removing cinematics, etc, which in my opinion, sucks)

    pay for your video games
