  1. Hi,

I have a video recorded from the vhs player in two avi files.

    The resolution is about: 349 X 277

I have used Powerdirector to build menu, and encode the movie. Bu there are 2 problems I have.

    1. The first one that playing final dvd movie result in small video rectangular display, instead of a full screen.

By the way, which mode 16:9, 4:3 be used for vhs movie?

In which proportion should such movie be displayed on dvd (and how will it be displayed on panoramic tv's)?

    2. In this probgram I wasn't able to encode the movie on 2 dvd disc?

Which program would you suggest to me, in which I could: connect several movie parts, create dvd menu, encode the movie on n disc's etc?

    Thanks for help in advance.

Wrong size....WAY too small. DVD is MPEG2(video) and can be nothing else.

  3. Well I will chech this out. But I am not so sure if I am able to change video size while
    capturing from the vhs player.

Further more, after the video had been recorded I had to crop 10 px from bottom line
as a flickering color small line appear at the bottom of the video.

What then, can I do with that?

  4. 1. The default video size is: 352 X 288.

    2. I have included sample video screenshot at this resultion, showing also the bottom line
    I am having problem with.

    3. Also I have also found that the audio only comes from the left channel.
Should the audio be on both stereo column?

    3. I will mention I am using winfast pvt2000 (mpeg hardware encoder)

    Edit
    ------------------------------------------
    Uncompressed gives me: 352 X 288 output
With hardware compression to mpg file I have: 720 X 576

This is what you need if your final outcome needs to be a DVD. Now you need to author this MPEG2 file to a DVD. The result will be a VIDEO_TS folder(or an ISO image of a VIDEO_TS folder), then you burn that to a DVD. Burn with ImgBurn.

It's highly unlikely you will see those lines on your TV once you get that to a DVD. If you do see them...it's better to mask the lines (10px of black - but do it on all 4 sides to make it look better). Masking the lines does not alter the image size(when done correctly) which is crucial for DVD specs.

  7. Thanks for all replies.

I have a few next questions.

I have come across quite good page: http://www.digitalfaq.com/guides/video/capture-understand-sources.htm
But certain things are confusing me.

    1. I am using hardware mpeg encoder.
I noticed that when the scene is moving fast I see such a deinterlaced effect (horizontal lines).
I don't know if that happens on tv, but after conversion to dvd format and being played on pc I see it..

When I encode to mpeg with progressive mode, on computer and on tv I have a good quality.

In this faq the author says I should encode the movie in interlace mode, just as vhs video output is interlanced.
Is that really true? If yes, which mode I should choose, I have: Interlaced: top field first, bottom field first, top to bottom, bottom to top?

    2. What should be the target bitrate for mpeg-2? I can set from 1000 to 10000 Kbps.
I have also minimum and maximum bitrate in variable bitrate mode. What should be there a default values?

    Thanks for clarifications!

    Edit
    -----------------------

I noticed that video file encoded in any of interlance mode results in the video flickering on my computer.
But will not I see for sure such an effect on brand new panoramic tv?

These guides are some of the new revisions that will massively expand the guide you were reading.
    - http://www.digitalFAQ.com/guides/video/capture-interlaced-vs-deinterlaced.htm

The second one is not fully complete, but it's close enough for your needs.

There's something along the lines of 50 unpublished guides and reviews pending publication.
