Anyone get that email regarding, "Walmart Netflix Settlement"? I got one but not sure if I'll join in on that class action suit. Here's the story:

There may not be much money left over after the lawyers get their cut and they divide it by a few million customers. I got a notice like that about a class action suit against my insurance company and my net payoff would be about $8. Of course my insurance company would likely raise their rates to cover that.

One article I found said that at best consumers will get pennies on this because almost all of it is going to the lawyers.

I got it twice. After a cursory glance, I deleted it. Everyone is so litigation happy that it makes me sick. I'm not even sure who was suing who and I really don't care. I hope it gets strung out over the course of decades.

OK, so I just read the link. How exactly is the end consumer protected by this lawsuit? Are they suing because of monopolistic practices?

I received the email.
The case is being heard in a civil court and it's a class action lawsuit, neither defendants has admitted guilt. Walmart has settled but Netflix is going to fight it. If you received the email you are automatically part of the lawsuit(by proxy) unless you opt-out, from reports I have read at most you will get $1.50. Just remember once you file a claim Walmart can use your info however they please.

I read another site said the consumer would only get 69 cents....go figure!

And this probably isn't really video news. Moving to Off Topic Forum.

The consumers that filed this are morons. Walmart's DVD rental service was horrible. Netflix couldn't have sold DVDs if it wanted to. Any agreement made was just solidifying the status quo anyway.
I was part of a class action about 5 years ago. I received a check for $60 this week. Originally, it was going to be about $225. The $60 almost wasn't worth the time spent to collect/copy documents and sign affidavits. I think I even had to pay a notary, but it's been so long that I've forgotten. Given how often people move, I bet many won't ever get checks, having long forgotten about it.Last edited by lordsmurf; 21st Nov 2011 at 03:11.
