Ok, I bought this new Concert DVD on the internet and was unaware that it only came with DTS 5.1 and PCM 2. My receiver can only decode Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3), so I'm quite PO'd that I'm reduced to stereo. I really want to hear the 5.1 but can't afford to go out and buy a new receiver, so what I wanted to do was to extract the DTS 5.1 from the VOB's convert to AC3 and then remux it back into the VOB's and burn it as my legal backup copy of the DVD.

What's the best way to do this with both quality results and as few steps as possible?

    TIA

I don't know about the fewest steps. But you can extract the dts track and convert with eac3to. Than you can remux that and burn again.

I believe you might be able to the conversion with just the original vob in eac3to but I'm not sure if it can detect and extract. It can convert to dolby ac3 without a problem.

I'm pretty sure you shouldn't have an issue saving the dts track with virtualdubmod. You would open the vob and go to audio and extract the dts stream as a separate file.

There are guides here to help you do that. Search for "dts to ac3" and you'll get a bunch of info on it.
